Hello All,

I spotted this little bird hopping from tree to tree in my local park, sorry It's not the best shot, I managed quite a few shots and a few were quite a bit closer and sharper but the poses were not up to much, if only I had managed to get closer with this one it might have tuned out to be quite a good shot. Its the first time I've seen a Treecreeper, I also seen a Goldfinch and a Woodpecker for the first time but alas no shots.

The Common Treecreeper

The Common Treecreeper, Certhia familiaris, is a small passerine bird found through much of temperate Europe and in some parts of Asia. It is a member of the treecreeper family. Together with the very similar Short-toed Treecreeper, the Brown Creeper and Hodgson's Treecreeper, it forms a distinct group of treecreeper species. It has a generally more northerly distribution than the Short-toed Treecreeper, although there is extensive range overlap in western Europe. Where both occur, Common Treecreeper tends to prefer conifers.

Common Treecreeper is the only treecreeper which breeds in Ireland, Great Britain and most of Scandinavia.

It is a resident in woodlands throughout its range, and nests in tree crevices or behind the bark of introduced Giant Sequoia. Up to nine eggs are laid.

This is a small 12.5-14cm long bird, fairly drab in appearance, streaked brownish above and white below. It has long stiff tail feathers which help it creep up tree trunks like a mouse looking for insects. It has a long curved bill.

Hi Hilary. Well done for a first for you . Dont sell your self short . this is a fine close up. the light has not been very good so you have done well. the Treecreeper is very tiny and fast to move. well done TFS.

This is a superb picture...You have been so patient to get this shot...Everything..Focus etc is totally spot on in my book...I hope you get the Goldfinch and the Woodpecker soon.

Hi Hil,
I photographed one of thesde for the first time a few weeks ago. Sadly I only had my 180mm and a 1.4x converter so couldn't get close enough for a decent shot.
Though you have done superbly well here!
The exposure is spot-on showing the intricate patterned reddish plumage really clearly.
Sharp with superb detail.
Nice composition as well.

Hi Hilary,

Very good capture of this tiny bird. Your photo has a good quality image showing clearly little birds plumage as well as the tree bark texture. Composition is good and I like very the way you put the tree trunk in the photo. Colors look very natural and the contrast between the waitish bark and green blurry background is excelent.

Maybe a little croped so that the subject (bird) a little greater are.

Once more superb picture of the nice subject and cute bird. I also like excellent decoration of the image. Wonderful shot of this cute Treecreeper. The details and colours on its plumage look superb and the lighting and exposure levels are perfectly handled. The details on the tree trunk and the BG look great. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.

the sharpness is still good even the sunlight comes from the opposite side of the tree!

Hello Hilary,
Even if you didn't get as close as you would have liked you did a good job catching this Treecreeper. This is well composed and presented on the birch tree trunk and stands out beautifully against the natural green bokeh BG with good sharpness.

I like this shot - this ís exactly how you see them creeping up a stem very unobtrusively. But you've focussed in on this one very nicely. Great details and fine natural colours. I like the bark of the birch too! Lovely green background and matching frame!

I love the shot of the treecreeper. the ones I have were taken on film and I have never seen another one near enough to be able to get a good shot of, but this little fellow seems to want to be photographed!
