[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Bald Eagle, one of the largest eagles in North America. This fellow stands about one meter high and his winspan was certainly than two meters. Bald Eagles are endangered in Southern Ontario and I was very pleased to be able to see this bird and his mate.

A few cool facts about the eagle: Each claw can render up to 1000psi in force and, although they seldom really do, they can dive at speeds over 75 mph.

The photo was shot handheld with a 400mm lens. At 1/640th, I wasn't assured of a really clean shot, but I got lucky!

PP: In converting from raw, I tried to fix the colour cast, increase saturation and I added a slight vignette.

Thank you to Scott for correcting me: at first I thought that the eagle was the largest bird. I was confused: it is, I think, because I read that they make the largest nest of any bird on North America.

Great close up nice sharpness and wonderful detail.
The composition is wonderful, the bird is in a excellent pose and has that majestic look to it.

Josh, Well taken, nice pose, I do disagree with your note a bit. It is not the largest bird in on N America. Ca Condors are larger, Am. White pelicians are larger.

Have seen quite a lot of them myself and made several thousends of images.
You've done an excellent job on this one.
Sharpness is very good and exposure is spot on.
Because of that feather details are wonderful, even in the whites.

Josh stated the largest Eagle not bird. The only two eagles native to North America are the Bald and Golden. I believe the Golden is larger than the Bald but no harm, Thanks for the photo. joelm
