Hello my Friends!
This time something not so colourful like an insect from my last presentation, but also creature from "warmer days" - picture taken last summer in Kriva Palanka, NE Macedonia.

This is a female of Ourapteryx sambucaria - Swallow-tailed moth (Lepidoptera: Geometridae), species rather common in most regions of Europe.

Distribution: from Spain to central Asia.

Habitat: deciduous forests, parks and gardens even in urban centres.

Host plants for caterpillars: Sambucus nigra, Hedera helix, Clematis vitalba, Lonicera sp., Prunus spinosa, Syringa sp.

Life cycle: one generation, overwinters as larva in a bark crevice. Imagines from June to August, caterpillars from late August to early June.

Size: 22-30mm, females are bigger than males.

Similar species: none.

Thank you in advance for your time and comments! :>

Hello Radomir,
This fine capture of a Swallowtail Moth is a nice one to take from your archives. The fine sharpness, pose and contrast with the dark green natural BG make this a text-book illustration and nice to view.
Thanks for sharing it,
Best wishes, my friend,

Hi Radek,
A nice capture of this beautiful swallowtail moth. Excellent details and a fine composition. Very nice POV. Thanks a lot for sharing.

A fine moth specimen, obviously a veteran of some past skirmishes Radomir, these moths are known as good camouflagers but this one looks a little out of its element. The fine POV made a sharply focused take possible, with a high degree of wing detail. TFS indeed!

Hllo Radomir,
an absolute hammer this picture. The technical aspects of the photography are all perfect, the composition with the dark leaves as background a success, the light seems to shine through and the geometrid moth is a splendid thing. Congratulations to this one, Radomir!
My best wishes to you
