Friends,

Continuing on my series of Indian Roller pictures for the season... This picture was shot again at Hesarghatta lake. It was nearly 8:30 a.m. in the morning by the time we reached Hesarghatta lake after battling through unusually heavy traffic on Tumkur Road. The lighting was excellent. Within 15 minutes we reached the territory of this beauty and spotted the Indian Roller searching for insects. Unlike my previous trip to the place when we had to shoot through the rain, the lighting this week was alternating between bright directional light and soft cloudy light. I could get decent shutter speeds even at ISO 200. This one was shot when the lighting was slightly cloudy. Hence the soft studio like lighting.

This Roller went around from one thorny perch to another. The bird seemed to like bet of thorns. I should have made close to 10 good shots of this bird. I liked this one due to green grass in the background caused by a higher POV and the way the perch is free of thorns, as if some has knocked the thorns off for this beauty. This provided an uncluttered clear view of the bird. The bird posed for me by looking to the direction where there is open space and provided me an opportunity to shoot this one frame.

Trust you like this.

Hi Murali,
A beauty indeed.
Superb colors and details against a clean BG.
Fantastic eye contact.
Would it enhance the composition if you cropped out the little twigs on the right hand side? They took my eyes away from the subject.
But maybe they give something for the roller to look at.
A gorgeous image. TFS. : )

Hi Murali , this is a fabulous shot , the color and detail along with the background are all perfect , great focus and sharpness. I agree with the comment on the thorns on the right side of the photo , they do grab attention a bit. none the less it is a great photo.

Hello Murali Sir,
I am missing the group shoot. Probably next time. The shot is perfect and I am sure it was waiting for you. The lighting and the frame is superb. Ganesh

Hi Murali,
You guys at Bangalore are producing stunning images of this bird I too had shot once in Rajasthan.
Your picture of the Indian Roller is absolutely beautiful and tecnically of a very high quality. Superb frontal point of view, sharp focus and delightful colours.
TFS and all the best.

Hi Murali,
what a beautiful post.
Everything is perfect: colors, composition, sharpness, POV ...
Little remark: I'd crop out the little twigs on the right. They distract a bit.
Great shot anyway.

Hi Murali,
Awesome 'shot'...
Lighting you were talking about is absolutely brilliant.
Touch up the 3 little branch rests to the right; that's why this Indian roller looks a bit upset:-)
But...wonderful image!!!
Congrats
