This Ruby Throated hummingbird is usually busy at the feeder. As the season progresses, it will need to feed every 15 minutes. We use fuchsias to supplement the hummingbird food in the feeder, lilacs are a favourite too. Cloudy afternoon.
Ruby Throated hummingbirds--Archilochus colubris, 3 inches long. The only hummingbird variety breeding east of the Great Plains. Males arrive first from Central America, females arrive a few weeks later. Feathers are luminous, but unfortunately, not in today's light.

Linda, correct me, but this appears to be the female as the ruby bib is missing from this one.
Excelent shot and well done on the composition.

Mike

A great capture of a cute little bird. I like the flower on the side of the photo; it adds interest.

Nice post.

Wonderful Linda, you got your hummingbird photo! I especially like the way you have framed yours with the lilacs and leaves, very nice.
Well composed photo, thank you for sharing it with us.

Good use of depth of field focussing to highlight the bird.

Linda, thank you for your presentation of a resting Hummingbird. Nice composition.
We dont see that often, a Hummingbird perched.
Congrats.

Hello Linda! The smaller they are the more difficult it is to photograph them even when they are not moving. You have managed to get a well composed image. I quite like the natural setting, the blurred background and the way the little fellow is perched. On my monitor however, it appears a bit dark (underexposed). I have posted a WS, please take a look and see whether it is an improvement of not.
