[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The European tree frog is a small frog that can grow to a maximum length of 4.5 cm. Historically, tree frogs were used as barometers because they respond to approaching rain by croaking. They also croak in the breeding season, even when migrating to their mating pools. Depending on subspecies, temperature, humidity, and the frog's 'mood', skin color ranges from bright to olive green, grey, brown and yellow. The head is rounded, the lip drops strongly, the pupil has the shape of a horizontal ellipse and the eardrum is clearly recognizable.
Males can be distinguished from females by their browny-yellowy, large (folded) vocal sacs in the throat region. The amplexus is axillary (in the armpits). Both adult males and females reach sizes up to 30-40 mm, rarely longer than 45 mm. The smooth, shining, usually leaf-green back and the white-yellowish to grey belly are separated by a dark stripe on its flank reaching from the nostrils, over the eye and the eardrum, to the groin, contrasting the green, and forming a dark spot near the hips. The hind legs are much larger and stronger than the fore legs, enabling the frog to jump rapidly.

Hi Pawel,

Very nice macro photo of Tree Frog. I have never seen one, I guess they are missing from Northern Europe. You have managed to hold the whole beautiful frog in focus, details are sharp and lighting/colours are very natural and nice.

A fine specimen captured expertly from a favourable POV in good focus against a pleasantly blurry BG Pawel, your concise note is quite informative my friend, thank you for both of them.

Bonjour Pawel,
Magnifique photo de cette rainette, la netteté et la luminosité est excellente.
Vraiment bravo, TFS.

Hallo Pawel
I cannot really say I like frogs, but this one definitely deserves a smiley. Details are razor sharp with nothing out of place. I just love the round eyes, the "polished “green body the jellybean yellow paws. It looks as if they are pumped up with air. The texture on the belly is displayed well and I like the light coming from the left hand side of the image. This is indeed a beautiful portrait and first class close up. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards

Very nice shot, clear and sharp. Nice pov.

Hi Pawel.
Amazing picture of so wonderful frog and impassive scene. May be you know our famous fairy-tale "Царевна-лягушка".. The frog looks like from it. Bravo. Superb job.

Witam Pawle!

Hello Pawel,
You're lucky to have found this little one and to have taken such a superb close shot of it! We have them in places here but they're not easy to see even though they can make such a loud noise! Excellent composition showing it in a very nice pose. Great sharpness and nice light and colours too. Impressive work!
Many thanks and kind regards, Ulla

Hello Pawel,
excellent approach from a low point of view, perfect focussing, and a wonderful spotlighting that makes this pretty tree frog appear from out of the dark in a most appealing, almost mysterious way.
Very nice contribution of a species that seems to indicate intact nature, and has become so pityfully rare in our country since many years.
Thank you! With best regards,
