[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Friends, I had a good photo session with the Indian Palm Bob Skipper on the 6th of this month.
Here is another shot of it with its wings fairly widely open. It was fluttering them, which resulted in a little blurring at the edges.
I will repeat the note on this species once again:

Indian Palm Bob (Suastus gremium gremius) has wingspan about 3-4.5 cm and dark olive-brown upperside with seven semi-transparent whitish-yellow spots (3 in the apex and 4 scattered). Its greyish brown underside is covered with buff scaling and 5 well-defined black spots. As with most skippers, it has a quick flight and rests with its wings folded closed. It loves the sun and is known to frequent low-growing flowers such as Lantana, Aztec Marigold, Asters, etc. besides ornamental Palms.

Taxonomy:

• Scientific name: Suastus gremius gremius
• Common name: Indian Palm Bob, Palm Bob
• Kingdom: Animalia
• Phylum: Arthropoda
• Class: Insecta
• Order: Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths)
• Family: Hesperiidae
• Subfamily: Hesperiinae
• Genus: Suastus
• Species: S. gremius gremius

Food plants:

Mainly ornamental palms such as Calamus, Caryota, Cocos nucifera (Coconut Palm), Phoenix canariensis (Canary Island Date Palm), etc.

Distribution:

India and Sri Lanka to Thailand and Southern China, Malaysia, Singapore and the Lesser Sunda Islands.

Thanks for the fine macro shot of this beautiful day moth Ram, the velvety texture of its body and wings are perfectly depicted here in great detail over the contrasty greenish BG. As usual, a very good composition my friend.
Cheers,
Mehmet

Hello Ram
It is delightful to have the occassion to make such a complete session with one specimen and capture all its poses. You seized it perfectly well and made the best to our enjoyment. I really love it!

Another excellent macro of this Skipper, Ram!
Amazingly good DOF for f/5.0 and great focusing one the eye and head.
Sharp and crisp with good detail.
I think the DOF could be a bit deeper. An aperture of f/16 usually works well and then a touch of flash will bring the shutter speed back up to about 1/200.
Brilliant BG that contrasts perfectly with the brown Skipper.
Very nice work my friend!

Joe

In fact I also came across one of these moths, a couple of days back, but unfortunately i didnt have my camera then.
Good composition. I like the way the moth sits on the egde of the leaf.

Hello Ram,
This guy seems very cooperative and gives a really fine pose here!
Skillful capture, the details in the insect is very well recorded and the 3-D feeling is there...
A pleasant composition where I appreciate the diagonal!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Dear Ram!
Very artistic POV, but still a very good documentary picture of this small butterfly species. I like contrast between green BG and natural colours of insect. You kept the main object with very good details and sharpness, what - in my opinion - was not too easy, especially from this point of view :)
Best greetings,
Radomir

Hola Ram,
Muy bueno el acercamiento que lograste al retratar ese saltarín, como se le llama aquí. Bello fondo, posadero y colores.
