Not yet I’m afraid! But with the weather we have for the time being spring will go far already this coming weekend…

A couple of words about my last posting "Small Stream in Spring": This was one of the first images I processed entirely on my new laptop, which is equipped with a screen quality that makes all images look good… Later I realized the image quality was so-so, and for the future I will stick to my desktop!

But image quality is getting a problem, to meet the 200 kB limit I have to reduce quality below what is acceptable and therefore often have to refrain from posting. The present image is normally around 300 kB and to get below 200 kB the quality is reduced to 55%.

The .jpeg compression cannot handle very well particular kind of patterns, for instance naked branches or a field full of flowers like here. The system of compression is effective when a colour is repeated in many pixels, for instance an image with lots of blue sky.

Hopefully the admin of Trek sites will take this into consideration and expand the limit to say 300 kB, after all the development in digital photography has taken h-u-g-e steps since the 200 kB limit were decided!

A note out of the ordinary this time, by the way the image shows lupines by the roadside last summer!

Hi Pablo,
Even thought I am enjoying the Spring weather and Nature emerging, this picture makes one hungry for summer.
Great composition, with superb Summer colors .
TFS..Sky

Very nice example of how well the Nikon does with florals..They look like Lupines a bit..maybe not. Monty Python had a routine on the lupines which I remember ever so well..Fine image Pablo.
Bob

Hello Pablo! Wonderful colors. Amazing contrast. Perfect sharpness. Ideal capture. Original composition. Fantastic work. Well done!

Hallo Pablo
I think I'll get lost in my own dream world if it happens that I stumble across a field of flowers like these in the real world. Is the creation and nature not amazing? I think it would be an absolute feast walking through a countryside of flowers, stopping at each one, looking and admiring and then photograph it. The variety of colours is incredible. Admiring God's lovely garden stretching into the distance, via this photo was a sheer pleasure, and I want to thank your for sharing this divine view. I also want to thank you for adding me to your list of favourites. It was not expected but a great honour indeed.
Best regards
Anna

Hi Pablo
I would love for the flowers to be blooming now. We've had snow for the last 6 days....I'm urning for warm sunny day. Thanks for sharing this colourful summer image today. I also agree about being able to upload larger resolution images. I hope the Trek sites would do this too.
Janice

Hello Pablo,

I recognise this flowers. I shoot last year also this beautiful Garden cultivars or Lupinus polyphyllus. There is no problem with this photo Pablo. The clarity is fine. No noise and I love this compo. Perfect natural colors. Well done.

Hello Pablo
This picture reminds me of other picture of lupins that you published months ago, which I enjoyed so much for I had never seen those flowers so colorful and beautiful together. This picture is gorgeous too, even if the quality has diminished by reducing its weight, but I really agree with you in your claim, for it is a pity in shots as rich and beautiful like this one.
My best regards
Maite

Hello Pablo,
Many thanks for the useful and informative notes regarding image quality and compression especailly on this sort of more delicate pixel-hungry image, I have quite a few of good ones that unable to fit on 200KB unless to reduce in size but lost of quality! we both share the same view!
Much appreciated for this quality image of summer in good colour!
take care and my best regards to you!

What are pretty shot - it looks rather like a William Morris design (well he was inspired by nature). A lovely shot - great DOF and colour.

Hi Pablo, very excellent light and colour in this one. Your desktop monitor is working well. With respect to your note you're right about the size limit, and it's not just with detail like this. Sharpening takes a lot as well, so when you combine your detail with great sharpening, as you have, then you have a problem.

Thanks, John

Hello Pablo. Stunning summer wild flowers in violet and green. Nice lighting in good exposure and clarity. Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni

Hi Pablo
A lovely splash of colour to brighten up my day. Beautifully captured and great colours.

Hello Pablo,
Sometimes flowers spread out of gardens and start thier new wild life. I have seen almost the same last year and it is a signe of strength and survival. Very colourful picture and promiss of better weather. You are right to speak about compression. May be it would be a theme for the forum.
Thanks and best regards
Anne

Hi Pablo!

From my point of view, your posting is very important and should be submitted to the administrators of TN. Since I have my new camera, I have to compress my pictures to 5 or even 4 on the of 12 proposed in Photoshop. Before, I could use 6-7, sometimes even 8. It's really getting a problem, especially when pictures with a lot of different colours and patterns like yours are concerned. How could we inform the admins of TN?

Thank you very much for this valuable posting. Let's hope it will help to get a change.

Kind regards

Markus

Hello Pablo, What a colorful flower. Excellent and lovely. I like the colors and also the composition. The presentation is very nice. Ganesh

Hi Pablo!

Yes, images like this wonderful in print suffer jpeg compression much. Here I think it's not that visible, but it's sure one of the kind that is sensitive for this problem.
Anyway, this shot looks very fine, the colors are wonderful and the composition is nice too.
Dunno how we should gather to note this request about size limit together, but I think if many of us would like it they would consider changing this limit. If you have any idea I'd join you gladly!

Hi Pablo,

The different tints of colors of the flowers are an asset to the composition. There is a good contrast between the colors. The photio is clear and precise. have a nice day.

Pierre

Hi Pablo,
I can't wait to see them again this year. It's a little too early for them here right now. They are wonderful flowers with very sharp details, nice perspective and color saturation. I also like the way you composed this nice scenery. Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Pablo.
You are right. New monitor is a problem sometimes as well as a resizing. However they are not a key point.

At first I have thought the spring was come in your places. At second moment I understood that I was mistaken. Amazing meadow with beautiful flower carper. Great farming and pictured piece of nature. I also like crisp sharpness of the image and rich colour despite the cloudy weather (I hope I am right in this case). Well done and my greetings.
Alexei.

Hello Pablo,

Very good composition of this field of flowers. Very good sharpness and great colours.
Cheers,
Mariki

Yet another beauty of a shot...
Very well done, Pablo.

Hi Pablo,
A lovely capture of this beautiful summer flowers. Excellent colors with a nice composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

hi pablo

nice picture. i agree with you about the limitation of 200 kb . this reduces the quality of the image a lot. but anyway your picture is wonderful. i wish i were there among these flowers.
thanks with best wishes.

Ahhhhh...your lupines! Gorgeous! This hasn't been a good year for lupines in Texas.
Great colors and lovely composition. Well done! :)

Hello Pablo !
Ah, spring and flowers ! Sorry to hear that you don't have this yet, but here in France, sping has already startec, and after weeks of grey weather and rain, the sun came out at last ! Feelsso good ! :-) Well, as for the picture, it look great even with quality reduction, as I love those flowers, and I love all the sunny and cheerful colors on your pictures. But I agree with what you tell in your note, I met the same problem some times also.
Greetings from France,
Valérie.

Hello Pablo,

Such sights are very faded in our memories but how nice it is to refesh them!

I have never seen lupins growing wild before. They look good mixed with the white flowers. (Is that cow parsley?) Lovely composition and refreshing, natural colours.

It is good fun to watch bees visiting lupins and observing their efforts at getting in and out of the flowers!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Pablo

A splendid shot of these lupines and definitely something we should be on the lookout for in the time to come.
They really make beautiful subject for shooting and as you demonstrated here, they can fill the frame superbly.
The colors are gorgeous and the details very nice.

You also make 2 other good points:
- i stand by you when it comes to the small size limit of the photos. We sure could use an upgrade to 300kB :)
- i know how hard it can be to get the same quality in images when you change your screen. I went through that not long ago...i hope my images didn't lose much :)

Bravo for this one and TFS my friend

Hola Pablo, qué bonitos son los colores de esta fotografia, una acertada composición y muy buena luz. Un saludo

I fully agree with you after reading your note, Pablo.
Considering that digital photography as of today requires a fair amount of space to show its real quality, the limit of 200 KB is just inadequate. Since we are a small bunch of nature photographers on TN and work on specialized subjects like flora, fauna and landscapes, we ought to be given more space and I would certainly go for 400KB. Hope some action is taken in this regard.

The flowers shown in your image take me down the memory lane. I saw a lovely picture of them for the first time many years ago on Webshots site where you could upload and download images. That image remained on my desktop for years.
This is a beautiful capture from last year. I love the colours in it.
Thanks for sharing it and best regards.

Beautiful Pablo!
Wonderful array of frame filling colors :)
Very nice,

Hi Pablo,
Very nice group photo. Yes, You're absolutely right about the filesize limit. Fortunately this problem's already solved and we can upload images up to 300 KB. Anyway, these lupines are savaged from cultivated stock, I guess.

Thank for all your comments. I apprecaited them very much.

What a bouquet!
I absolutely agree with your consideration, sensor are increasing in area and in # of pixel and compression seldom is satisfying. Also TE and TL should be consider this problem.

A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
