I am trying something different and thought I would post it to see what you think of it. This mink had the light falling on it's face so I decided to draw attention to the highlights with a B&W conversion.

Mink Information from the BWC

The mink is a medium-sized member of the weasel family. The first American mink were brought to British fur farms in 1929 and all wild mink in Britain today are descendants of escapees. The natural wild colouring is a glossy dark brown, appearing almost black in some light. Commercial farming selectively bred much paler colours, hence most of those in the wild in Britain are a lighter brown.

Mink spend up to 80% of their time in their dens, sleeping, grooming and eating food they have carried home. Frequently found near water, they are often mistaken for otters, although mink are in fact considerably smaller.

Mink are a major factor in the decimation of the water vole population, because they are small enough to follow their prey down its burrow.

Hello Karan,
Very original idea and execution, never seen such work on nature photography. Liked the mood created by low key light and BW presentation. TFS, Regards

Hi Karan,
I like the B+W very much!
The amount of contrast is perfect for this medium and as you said, the attention is drawn straight to the highlights.
Very sharp and crisp.
Excellent composition.
Well done!

Hi Karan,

The lighting on the mink's head is just wonderful. The b&w is very effective but I wish you had posted the color version in the workshop. He has such a sweet face and I love how the whiskers show up against the background.

Hi Karan,
your idea work great. The light game and the B&W compo made a great photo. You guide us straight to the face and the fur. I´m not sure about the part of the body that we can see, don´t know if needs more light (so we can see a bit more of the body) or a bit less (so we only can see the head).
Although, it´s a great compo. compliments!
have a nice weekend

Hello my dear friend Karan,
Yes, the B/W version of portrait has it's own beauty in it, at least to me!
the portrait has the best pose of this cute fellow with wonderful lighting on the face in great details
good tried and compliment for that
have a good sunday from NZ

Hello Karan,
I liked the result of your experiment a lot.
Usually I don't prefer to see images of birds and animals in B&W, but this one has made me reconsider my opinion.:)
Beautiful presentation. Excellent use of light. Very good POV. I liked the shallow DOF that accentuates the head and helps the rest of the body to merge with the BG.
Thanks for the share,

Wow...wait until next week when Mike Warnes sees this...He and I share a real love for superb B&W images....this is purely genius....some folks got it... some folks watch TV:-) You take pictures!
Best of all Karan..You are good at it because you love it!

Hi Karan,
Outstanding B&W shot and you have done a skillful work here. Superb lighting effect and the image is neat and sharp. I like its calm posture and the darkish BG works well in highlighting it perfectly. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.

Hi Karan,

Hi Karan
Great idea with BW conversion Sipmle and beautiful great light and good contrast She is coming out from the dark ;-)
I like it very much

Hello Karan,
Indeed a cute little fellow!
As I have been told they are popular among ladies but not for their cute faces...
Fine details and the black and white works with me, I might try a different crop mainly to give him some more space to look into!

hi Karan,
jolie et rare image, le travail en n&b est vraiment judicieux et merveilleusement executé.

Hi Karan,
A great idea to convert this photo to B&W. It draws all the attention to the light and the details. The frame filling composition and the position of the mink have created a beautiful portrait.
