[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This female Northern Flicker surprised me by allowing me to get closer to her than I imagined, especially since she has a nest of youngsters just below the branch she's perched on.

The youngsters are too young to be seen (they can't crawl out of the hollow where she and her mate built their home), but they were certainly driving this new mama crazy. While she is taking a break from feeding her new brood, Papa is scouting for food and then bringing it back. It's nice to see that she's not a single mom. Here she is taking a much needed rest; perhaps she's too tired to care that I am there.

I took several shots from different angles because the light kept changing on me (dark clouds, sun) and this one turned out to be my favorite.

This one is dedicated to Arfer because his bird photos drove me cuckoo and made a bird-brain out of me - his superb photos got me interested in these wonderful feathered creatures. (Along with others, but those will come later)

One thing I noted for certain: I think I'm happy being an aunt for now with only a kitten and a dog. These youngsters are demanding, hungry most of the time, and leaves these new parents exhausted. From what I noticed when my niece was a baby, it is often the same, but for much longer! I really do admire the true dedication, love, and endurance of parents who strive to create a loving atmosphere for the little ones - my hat is off to each one of you!

Hi Nathy. Now this i must say is a good close up of this unusual looking bird. One i have not seen so thanks for posting. You have captured fine detail and natural colours. I like all of its marking and the heart shape on its breast. well done TFS.

Hi Kathy,
This is one of my favorite birds, and you have done a beautiful job capturing this pretty female.
I think you could have cropped some of the excess leaves off the top to make it a little better, but even so it is an excellent shot.

Kathy I found this one because I was looking for my fellow Canuck Arfer... There is a huge sinkhole suddenly where all those great shots used to hang out! Glad to see Rob was an inspiration to U as well! When it comes to Flickers, U may wanna check out Bobair's shots too!
