A grey heron captured at Ste Croix resort near Rhodes, France.

I'm quite happy to get close enough to take this shot, even if unfortunately the greyish sky is not fantastic as a background. I noticed that wild herons are generally speaking quite shy, so often you will only see the fly away once you approach ;-)

However in public parks or other places where the birds are used to human presence, it's very much easier to approach them. After having taken a shot in Paris and this one in Rhodes, the challeng is now to capture under more difficult conditions ...

Great shot Mike, I have chased herons formany miles trying toget a decent picture of them. This one is so sharp, I think the grey sky actually brings out the colouring of the heron. Well done
