[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the first butterfly I am sort of happy with. I went out the other day and took several (okay, around 60) and wasn't satisfied.

Yesterday I decided it was bird day, so I took the 300 mm lens that doesn't have as much detail; however, it has a longer distance than the other lens. Of course, I spotted five butterflies!

I took somewhere in the range of 80 yesterday, all in RAW, and kept about six. I strive for better, I want more of them, and I won't be satisfied until they reach a level that is on par with a professional. That's just me, though. I know this is in the family of Swallowtails and this is the sharpest photo I got.

I did have the ISO at 400, but keep in mind, I was going after faster prey. Yikes, I'm speaking like a predator - with a camera, of course!

Anyway, I came back miserable due to allergies and am hoping that come Monday my allergist will have something that will give me relief. My eyes continue to swell shut, itch, and burn. It doesn't stop me from going out, but by the time I return, I'm done it - and that's why my critiques are few at the moment.

I got this one shot of this particular butterfly - and then I sneezed. I didn't see it again, and that's when I knew to head home...

My empathy to all of you allergy sufferers out there...

(But the end result is usually worth it...)

I will do my best to do a few critiques as I am able.

Wow! What a great shot Kathy!!
Very sharp and the contrasting colours are gorgeous. I love the composition, the butterfly, flowers and greenery look great. You even got him sipping some nectar.
Very nice detail in the wings, I especially like the tail end with the blue and redish orange.
Wonderful image!! This is well worth a runny nose and itchy eyes.

Hi Kathy , I had to smile reading your comments ,I have the same type of luck , if I put on my birding lens then the bugs come out , if I put on my bug lens then a flock of birds appears ... :-) it is likely some type of photographer's Murphy's Law ;-)

if I had gotten a shot of a butterfly with my bird lens and it looked like this , I would be pretty happy with that.

the shot has good detail , nice color and a good point of view , an good photo of this beautiful swallow tail. thanks for sharing it,
regards

Hello Kathy, this is a great shot of this butterfly and you have something to be satisfied for sure. I like the pov and the light passing lightly through the wings... this is beautiful. And the angle of the flower makes a nice picture too. And for allergies, I've suffered for years. I don't know what happened, I am free of them now, almost... I take 1000mg a day of Ester-C (a vitamin C under the form of calcium ascorbate instead of ascorbic acid) and I think it really helps me. WEll, I wish you luck with your doctor and cross my finger everything will be fine for you! Bye bye and thank you for the great picture,

Francine
