I found new place to explore during this weekend with lot of birds to enjoy & photograph. Weather was not on my side and I hadn't enough with time to spend there. It was windy day with lot of rain. I was waiting in the car during the rain and than went out in 15min to explore area then rain again in 10min... (Place name was Svanviken for Swedish people to know)

I found this guy in the beginning of the forest when I was on way to explore a round. I used 800mm usually on tripod but this time I saw this guy on this old tree and hadn't enough with time to put my camera on tripod so I handhold my camera and made few shots. Even IS was of (on tripod is not so much use for IS which even save battery power) I was really surprised with quality of this handhold shot in low light... Hope you like it.

This is male and I have even female from same area...

The Pied Flycatcher, Ficedula hypoleuca, is a small passerine bird in the Old World flycatcher family, one of the four species of Western Palearctic black-and-white flycatchers. It breeds in most of Europe and western Asia. It is migratory, wintering mainly in western Africa.

This is a 12-13.5 cm long bird. The breeding male is mainly black above and white below, with a large white wing patch, white tail sides and a small forehead patch. The Iberian subspecies iberiae (known as Iberian Pied Flycatcher) has a larger forehead patch and a pale rump. Non-breeding males, females and juveniles have the black replaced by a pale brown, and may be very difficult to distinguish from other Ficedula flycatchers, particularly the Collared Flycatcher, with which this species hybridizes to a limited extent (Parkin 2003).

The bill is black, and has the broad but pointed shape typical of aerial insectivores. As well as taking insects in flight, this species hunts caterpillars amongst the oak foliage, and will take berries. It is therefore a much earlier spring migrant than the more aerial Spotted Flycatcher, and its loud rhythmic and melodious song is characteristic of oak woods in spring.

They are birds of deciduous woodlands, parks and gardens, with a preference for oak trees. They build an open nest in a tree hole, and will readily adapt to an open-fronted nest box. 4-10 eggs are laid.

Hej Ralf,
Fine capture of this svartvitflugsnappare, especially that this was taken hand-held with your heavy artillery! Great sharpness and fine green bokeh.
TFS this beauty,

Regn och blåst här: det blir likadant på fjällen förmodligen! Jag åker nästa måndag.

Hi Ralf
Excellent shot with good details and pose.

Hallo Ralf
Lovely close-up with excellent details and sharpness. This is a really beautiful black and white bird with delicate and fine feathers. The beak looks like the lead of a pencil point and is very delicately formed and shaped. This looks like a very fragile bird if I look at the thin matchstick Pinnochio legs. A very good-looking composition, with great focus, sharpness and framing applied. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed looking at this tiny little thing.
Kind regards

Hi Ralf,

I'm jealous - it's too hot here to go out exploring. It wouldn't pay off anyway because all the birds and animals are hiding from the sun and heat. This Flycatcher was a nice capture. He is posing so nicely for you - I love the position of his wings and tail feathers. Excellent details and wonderful blacks and whites. He has such a cute face!
