I was happy to discover this specimen of
- Gomphus pulchellus
- family: Gomphidae

The dragonfly was freshly hatched and therefore was rather passive and an ideal object for taking pictures.
In addition the bright light gave me chance to select small apertures in combination with acceptable short exposure times. So I could achieve a suitable depth of field by a handheld capture.

Species information
G. pulchellus occurs in West-Europe (Germany, France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Spain. It is absent from Scandinavia, Great Britain and Italy and most parts of Austria.
In contrast to other species of the genus, pulchellus prefers ponds and small lakes.

Hi Peter, beautifull pic,not easy to have a perfect focus along the full body of this dragon, excellent point of view, light, colors and sharpenss,my best compliments for the excellent note too as your style, have a nice day,LUCIANO

Hi Peter,
Very detailed and nicely composed shot. It is often hard to fill this much of the frame when the subject is a dragonfly, due to their body shapes. TFS

Hi Peter,

Congratulation on the discovery. Your experienced eyes compromised their camoflouge. Nice diagonal entry. Good lighting, sharpness.

Hi Peter,
Good Camouflage. Very well captured image of this interesting insect.

Hlelo Peter,
Yes, I bet you were happy to discover this one that we don't often spot here! You often get the best opportunity just as they've emerged. I like your POV and the sharp focus showing all details clearly. A great capture well composed.
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla

Hi Peter,
Outstanding shot of this beautiful dragonfly with lovely colours and details. Superb handling of harsh natural lighting and I like the sheen on its wings. Nice pose captured with a fine POV. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hi Peter

A very good shot of this lovely species - not so often seen here on TN and one that i hope to find someday, too :)
It's not always that we find our subjects on an isolated twig and we must do our best with what we get...and i think you did great here.
Considerring the conditions, this is a spot-on macro, taken from an excellent POV (very good for the ID of the species) and with a nice DOF.
Beside that, it's sharp and well saturated.

Bravo and TFS
