Hello my Friends!
After two weeks I just returned from Baltic states :> A lot of wonderful places were visited by me during that time and I really hope to show you some pictureS from this region soon :> But this time something from my archieve - a picture taken near Psary village, "Swietokrzyski National Park".

Yes, I know... this is probably the most common frog species presented in TN gallery, but I hope that you >will like this image :>

This is Rana temporaria temporaria Linnaeus, 1758 (Eglish: Common Frog, European Common Frog, European Common Brown Frog, Polish: zaba trawna).
This is one of 3 species of "brown frogs" known from Poland (the second is Rana arvalis, the third - Rana dalmatina).

And here are some basic data about this species:

Distribution: Throughout Europe east to the Urals, but excluding most of Iberia, much of Italy, and the southern Balkans, introduced into Ireland. Known from lowland to mountain.

Habitat: during mating season (early spring) - in fresh waters, in other months as terrestial species in different places like forests and meadows.

Size: 7-10cm

Taxonomical diversity: 3 subspecies:
- nominative - known from great part of species area
- ssp. hannorati - SE France
- ssp. parvipalmata - NW Spain

Endangered status: in Poland protected by the law, also placed in the Red Bata Book in LC category. Unfortunatelly as all other amphibian species, also this one - even if still rather very common, is endangered because of the UV radiation which can destroy its spawn and kill tadpoles.

If you are interested in other species of Polish herpetofauna, please feel free to visit the theme Amphibians and reptiles of Poland :>

Have a nice day and thank you in advance for your time and comments!!! :>

Hello Radomir,
Yes it is a worrying thought that even the most common amphibians are threatened by our effects on the environment and until we improve on our behaviour we can only hope that some have been able to adapt to the negative changes caused by the destructive species misnamed Homo sapiens!
This is a fantastic portrait of Rana temporaria, an unusually grey form. Technically this is excellent with skillful use of flash. The Composition on the contrasting moss, pose and POV are all superb.
Thanks for sharing this beauty,
Best wishes from Åhus,

Dear Radomir
Very intersting spieces to captured,
Perfect focusing,exposure and notes.
Welldone my friend.

Good Luck

Hi Radomir

What a suerb shot! The focus, lighting and colour are all spot-on. Great work.

Hello Radomir,
Sometimes I teach common or (vulgaris in Latin) to my students. many times the word cause similar confusion. e.g. Common squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris), relatively rare in Turkiye and it range European part and restricted area. But S. anomalus ranges almost all Anatolia (Asiatic Turkiye). In that case, later must be called common:)) another thing, IUCN list sometimes including wrong information. e.g. Apodemus hermonensis (=A. iconicus) is the most common mammal species in our country and Levanten area. But IUCN listed it as EN. Several times, I was a member of IUCN redlist workshop and I told in there. Similar things were corrected. Thirdly, I agree our friend Ivan that Homo sapiens [sapiere is thinking creature, as you know] disturb many things, even if theirselves.
Well, congratulations indeed for this perfect macro. Focus, POV/OOF, eyes contact, coloration and composition with bryophyts wonderful. Thanks for sharing and good notes. best wishes my friend

Hi Radek

Nice to see you again here and nice to hear you've had a great time in the Baltic states. I'm very much looking forward to see what you've explored there :)

This is a terrific shot of this R. temporaria! I really like your low POV and the excellent flash work that illuminates the underside area so well.
The surroundings with all the moss are lovely, too, and complement the tones of the subject very well.
Excellent details and DOF, good compo and presentation.

Bravo and TFS

PS: i've taken some more Odonata shots recently. I've upload some on my website here and if you need any for the POS gallery, you can just contact me.

Hi Radomir,
Sharp clean photo, well composed. Your flash might have been a bit strong but the photo still looks great.

Hi Radek,
Welcome Back,
A nice capture of this common European frog. Very well composed with sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Radomir,
This image is superb, I like a lot the environment it is on, perfect definition on frog and vegetation below, BG is intriguing and nice in same time, illumination excellent.
One of the best picture on frogs I´ve seen for identificaion, maybe not so colourful as tropical ones but for me a very well managed photo

Hello Radomir,

Superb capture of this frog. Excellent composition on the beautiful moss. Excellent POV, DOF and sharpness. Superb colours.

Hi Radomir,
This is a first class picture! Everything looks good here: Composition, details, exposure and DOF. I enjoyed reading your notes about this nice specie which is not common to me :)! Thanks,

Hi Radomir. I love the clarity and DOF. You managed a nice background to help it out and it's perfectly framed. Everything it needs. Besides the technical stuff, the frog is very well portrayed. A keeper. TFS Trevor
