The Ruddy Darter (Sympetrum sanguineum) is a European species of dragonfly of the family Libellulidae.
The Ruddy Darter attains a wingspan of up to 6 cm. The head, thorax and abdomen of the male are vivid red, while the female is slightly smaller, and is a golden-yellow colour with black markings. The abdomen widens for the final third of its length and shows a marked pinched section where it joins the thorax.
The all-black legs of the Ruddy Darter distinguish it from the otherwise very similar Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum) and Vagrant Darter (Sympetrum vulgatum), both of which show yellow stripes on their legs.

Bonjour Robi,
Adorable petite libellule que tu nous montres dans une position très artistique. Dommage seulement que le support sur lequel elle se tient est un peu moins élégant. Mais je vois, pas de possibilité de couper! Quand viendras-tu en Valais? N'oublie pas de me le signaler.

Hello Robi,
A fine capture of an immature male S. sanguinum against a suitable bokeh BG. The POV and sharp front part of the dragonfly are superb and the composition pleasing.

Nice photo of the dragonfly. We have the same species in our place and only this one.
I like wide DOF and very good details and sharpness of the insect image. POV and framing are so attractive too and BG is also wonderful. Diagonal composition is looked very well. My best regards and TFS.

HI Robi,
You have captured the darter obliesking and in good lighting and colours.There are certain portions of the darter that has gone OOF, but the overal sharpness to the head and the abdomen give a fine piece of work.
The Bg of green make a fine contrast against the darter's colours.
