This is my 100th disappointing posting. Which is not the big bang I wanted.

I was looking for something better which I came close a couple of times. However, with this setup, I have to get in close to the subject and many times they don't like it, so, they take off.
I'll be still on the hunt for the shot I wanted, you'll know when. :) :)

F9.0 is not my favorite, but it's all the camera has to offer. I had to choose my focal point, the spider. I wish both the hoverfly and crab spider would have been in full view.
Notice the hoverfly, it looks as if it's been lifted by the spider. Those fangs in the back of the neck, ouch.!!!
This was rotated for a better view. Rotate it 90 degrees left and that is the original position.

Hand held with M.M.L.S. thanks Gert for the name.

Don't be too hard on yourself, it's a good macro shot!

This is a great macro, Mike.
I like it very much a very good picture for the 100th
Great action, well composed, nice colours and good POV.
As usual, very good used of the MMSL.
Excellent work, my friend.
Congrats.

Congratulations Mike! Action macro with h-fly and spider is good for most TN members :-) I like both. As for f9 quality is very good, light and composition also. But first of all this is great moment, hard to spot and capture. So - congrats once again for this one and for jubilee Mike!

This is great Mike! The M.M.L.S. system works like a charm...Very sharp details in your subject with great colors. How did you light the scene? Is this ambient light? It's a great POV with the face in full view and the deadly deed well seen, Very well done my friend!!

Hi Mike!
Superb shot... but...I'm afraid!!!

PS. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Holy sh-fly Mike, this is an incredible macro shot with amazing detail!
That poor fly though, I am glad that I can't see the look on its ugly little face....
I applaud your 100th, it is a worthy milestone photo. Congratulations!

Hello Mike!
Great macro.Details on spider, lighting and composition are excellent.Congr. for 100.post and hope to see your 1000th and more posts.TFS...:-)

Great shot, this is the sort of big bang I like. Very nice DOF and exposure. I can even see the veins in the fangs. Congrats on your 100th Mike.

I do think you are too hard on yourself. This is a great shot.

On the other hand the spider did catch what it wanted.. a big fat meal...
Sure is a good macro shot IMO with the focus on the spider. Nice spring colors too with a lot of yellow and tender green...

C'est l'heure du repas.
TrŤs belle photo, Bravo !
Nico.

It is good enough for the 100th post, tremendous capture with great action that you dellivered well in this picture, accurate focus point and very good quality, well done.

Great shot Mike!
If this is disappointment I really can't imagine how your "big bang" would have looked like ;-)
This is really good shot, the pose of the spider with his fangs in the back of the neck of the "meal" is more than superb.
Perfect light and composition.
I like it very much.
Well done!

Hi Mike, it would be very nice to have some more dof but it's a great capture. You're one stop luckier than me. I got maximum f/8.:)
I loved the light here. A bit dramatic like the scene.
Very well done.

Great shot Mike,
Congratulations on your 100th Post. This is a fantastic shot.
I can't fault it in any way. As Paul says, the star of the shot is in focus and well detailed.
Brilliant action capture, thanks for posting.

congrats Mike, think this is a real good macro and the focus is spot on ...have a similar action shot from the crab spider " Misumena vatia" , nasty spiders !!

You did not obtain what you wanted for your hundredth but your spider, it, seems satisfied with its prey. Be patient, the luck always smiles to the audacious as you.
Thank you for sharing so beautifull pictures and for the enjoyment which they give us.
p.s.: I would like to be disappointed for a so good photo. Still it would be necessary that I have some of them.

I don't know why you are disappointed with this, I really don't. It's a superb capture. Nice lighting and composition. The star of the shot is the hunter and the focus is rightly directed on her. Very well done Mike, congratulations on your century.

A belated congratulations on your 100th posting, somehow I missed it. I donít get online every day and sometimes thereís too much to look at (thatís my excuse anyway).
The funniest thing about joining this site is that you become super self-critical. To a degree this is a good thing as it encourages you take more time in composing, taking and posting your shots. On other occasions, I think we go overboard. You should NOT be disappointed with this shot. Many others (including me) would love the opportunity to see this action, never mind capture it forever and share it with the world.
Considering the limitations of your compact (when compared to DSLR), and your brilliant lens set-up, I think youíve done a great job. The spider is in great focus with lots of detail, and you can clearly see itís a hoverfly. The composition and exposure are great. Not much more to ask for really.
Keep shooting Mike, the S5000 does take some great shots, we just have to be happy with the tools we have to play with. Well done, and I look forward to many more critters from your neck of the woods.

Hey Mike, MUCH better than mine for sharpness and details, etc.... And I can't even find a spider!
And I agree wholeheartedly with Chris - Sandpiper2.
Thanks Mike
