Helophilus trivittatus (on Verbascum nigrum) is a hoverfly of the Syrphidae family. This helophilus can be distinguish from others species by its yellow vertical stripe down the 'face', its bright yellow marks and its third femur black on a part with a yellow strip on the apex. On the end of the abdomen, it has little light yellow strips: 3 for the female, 2 for the male.
You can find here here a very useful table to distinguish the 3 commun species of helophilus. It is in French, but easy to understand thanks the drawings and the photos.

Hello Catherine,
An excellent macro of H. trivittatus taken from a fine POV with superb sharpness and detail and set in a fine composition.
I think this species may the first on TN!
TFS this beauty,

Hallo Catherine
The image is well composed with very good detail, exposure and sharpness. The markings on its back and especially the veins on the wings are clearly visible. I like the glossy shine on the insect. The yellow flower blurred out in the background highlights the colours and detail of the hoverfly to a great extent. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards

Hello Catherine,

This is a very lovely, razor-sharp capture of the hoverfly!
Your composition, for me, is perfect with the off-centre image facing the centre on a diagonal!
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Catherine,

Perfect macroshot of this Helophilus trivittatus. I like the diagonal position of this hoverfly at the flower very much. Good BG. Nice frame. Good job. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice weekend and TFS BOB
