My 100th post !
The caterpillar of the Wanderer or Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus). A common butterfly of eastern Australia that can be found through most of the year, with their larvae found until the end of May. The adults apparently live for 3-4 months. They feed on milkweed plants, which, like the butterfly, were introduced to Australia. Even though they are quite large, about 60mm, and vibrantly coloured, the larvae are difficult to find and I thank Michelle (mrower) for pointing this one out for me.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has looked and/or critiqued my work. I value every comment, especially those of you who take the time to write scathing, constructive criticisms and workshops. I believe that since joining TN, my techniques have improved and I now think before taking a shot, always looking for that perfect angle and exposure.
Thanks again, and hopefully I’ll take many more shots to share with this wonderful global community of nature lovers.

UPDATE 5 June
Using some of teh suggestions in the critiques below I have posted a workshop incorporating the suggested improvements. Indeed, I think it looks better, Thanks to everyone.

Well choosen subject. This caterpillar is real beauty. I like diagonal composition, colours and shape of insect. Good work!

Congratulations Chris on your milestone..This has good details, colors and DOF, I like the way you've composed the shot also..I appreciate the sentiments in your note. TN and its community has helped all of us who use it to grow. Well done!

Great picture for your 100th post, Chris.
Very well composed, nice colours and goo details.
Excellent work.

Congratulations Chris.

Hi Chris, congrats on your Century mark.
Excelent shot and well done on the composition.
As Howard said, it's a great place to learn from Everyone.

Mike

Congrats on your 100th post!
Nice and sharp capture with good DOF and POV. Good handling of the sharp Aussie light. There's a teeny weeny fraction of overexposure on some of the whites in the belly area, you could easily clone that out, though.

Nice composition, very good POV and framing. I would just push a little more the saturation.
Well done.
TFS.

This caterpillar has got beautiful colors.
details are very sharp and clear.
Well done.

Wish they were common here too :) Like the composition here and the colours. Its a great looking caterpillar. It might help emphasise it better with a less fussy background perhaps?

Well done and congrats for your 100th!

Regards
Matt

Hi Chris, very nice view of this caterpillar. Composition is a bit crowded though the colours and the details of the caterpillar takes all the interest.
Well done.

Congrats on your 100th post, Chris. 98 of them being really interesting critters. :) This is a lovely caterpillar and I like the composition. The whites are a bit OE around the head. Maybe -2/3 exposure compensation. I also think that the photo could benefit from +10 or +20 saturation and lab sharpening. Very well done.

Congrats Chris. Very good macro, well detailed with sharp focus, and the colours are so real. Good job!

Hi Chris. Congrats on such a great 100th post :). I find the BG very slightly noisy and I'm wondering what ISO you used. If it was a still day maybe you could lose a little speed in favour of ISO? It's only minor though and everything else is perfect. I particularly like your composition here, it works a treat. Colours, sharpness and DOF are also great. Great notes too, TFS :)
