[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This female black-chinned hummingbird (Archilochus alexandri) dropped in for a quick sip after a squabble with another female hummingbird. The males have a black patch on the throat. The male is green above and on sides; chest crescent and mid-belly stripe white; violet below; tail black; notched.

The females are green above; throat and underparts white; green tail with white corners.

The voice is a loud teeuw which I can attest to, especially when they are testy with each other!

Although this photo was taken during the brightest part of the morning, I severely underexposed the shot, making the house nearly invisible.

I spotted this bird on my walk home from our (me and my dog) early morning walk that started at five this morning and ended about 11:30.

About the time I spotted this one, another one zipped over my head, yelled at the one you see, and then the two proceeded to squabble.

Not wanting to miss a good show, I proceeded to make myself comfortable (in my neighbor's yard) to watch this play out. Just as I completely relaxed, the owner of the home came out and seemed surprised to see me.

I waved and thanked her for inviting me over, praying she wouldn't recall that she'd never issued that invite! However, I did promise her a photo if one came out nice - so I guess I better keep my promise, eh?

Hummers are quick, they fight just like siblings, and although shy, they can zoom, zip, and zap their way across a yard at amazing speeds while doing amazing acrobatics!

The black background of this photo was accidental, but in the end, I liked it. I decided on a yellow border to tie the photo together, but that's just me being artistic. I deliberately chose the same color of yellow in the photo (thank goodness for that tool with my colorblindness!). I hope you enjoy.

Ok...you're kidding right? What pro took this for ya?:-) Now having said that and guessing it was certainly you because you are so proud of what you do...I must say this is way above what you are used to doing...as with your close neighbor Asbed..something has happened...it's as though I have awakened in a different world...PLEASE keep on...you are doing so well..and I have to admit that this is an image which would be very tough for me now at my age...even if challenged..and even if I could perchance see one these days...GREAT shot Kathy!
