[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I captured its image "yes" but its soul has gone.

These days if I go to the zoo its usually by myself as my wife and friends refuse to go because they feel its not right to enclose large animals etc. Although its true that zoos have an important part to play these days in conservation of endangered species not all zoos are equal.

No more so did this hit home as I passed the elephants section in Belfast zoo. It is said that lions are the king of the jungle but for me its the elephant. In their natural habitat these large mammals are gregarious by nature and roam in herds of 15 to 30, usually led by an old female. They feed on more than 100 species of plants, including grass, leaves, twigs and bark. Here in this concert enclosure this Asian elephant justed pasted back and forth before laying down with boredom I guess.

Very nice and sad capture. I'm glad you put that note with it. Great picture and you have documented this well. I still don't know where I stand on zoos. Thanks for posting.

As Paul said Zoo's have their Pro's and Con's. I always have mixed feelings when going to one. It's a tregic site to see the big ones down. I am just glad it's from boredom. But still this elephant does not look healthy and I suppose... lets not go there. Nice capture Stephen.

Coincido con el pensamiento de Paul y Gerhard acerca del encierro de estos grandes animales.
Sobre todo cuando las condiciones del Zoo no le permiten al menos una vida más activa o entretenida, independientemente del rol que juegan estos especímenes en la conservacion de algunas especies.
Como calidad de imagen, muy buena en general.

I agree with the thought of Paul and Gerhard about the confinement of these great animals.
Mainly when the conditions of the Zoo do not allow to at least one more active life or entertainment him, independently of the roll that plays these specimens in the conservation of some species.
Like quality of image, very good in general.

Stephen, Like your notes and the theme for your presentation very much. Your photo seems to capture this sadness in the eyes of the "Fallen Hero". Very well done!!

He doesn't look happy and I can relate to all you say in your note. Even for some of us humans, we can feel like this being trapped in comfortable, boring domestication.

He looks sad.. I added him to my Zoo animal theme.
