Kjenndalsbreen (Kjenndalen Glacier) is part of the largest icecap of Europe called Jostedalsbreen. (480 km²)

The Kjenndalen valley and the Kjenndalen Glacier lie at the end of Lodal valley, 17 km from Loen. From Loen its a ride along Lovatn Lake and then a half hour walk to get about this spot. If you really want to touch the ice you have to climb rocks and boulders. Between 1980 and 1997 the glaciers grew by over 300 metres, but in the last few years the glacier arm has actually been retreating. Global warming is evident.

Hi Niek,

This one is a winner! Looks really sharp to me... then I doubt very much that I would EVER see anything that you hadn't already seen! : ) You retained just enough detail in the water to please me : ) and no hotspots either in the water nor the clouds. I like the zig zag of the water/ice moving up through the frame. Did you crop this at all? The proportions seem taller and skinnier than usual. It works for this subject. I am becoming more sensitive to this as my husband "hates" vertical shots!???? ... and I take a lot of them. I've been trying to take images so that I can crop some from top and bottom so they are closer to square. I also am trying to take more side by side images and combine them. I find it hard to remember these things in the field though.

Hello again Niek!
Another interesting landscape picture, this time with from bigger elevation ;>
I like point of view, the stream/river looks very nice from this perspective. Also colours and effect of blurred water is nice for watching as for me.
On the other hand I'm not sure if a frame in other colour than white would be better to better expose the picture (presently there is a little to small contrast between picture and frame as for me, especially in place where water "meets" a frame :> But of course it is only a detail).
TFS and have a nice evening!
Friendly yours,
Radomir

Hi Niek!

I see you have found the Norwegian beauties... Maybe one needs to visit that wonderful country first in order to be able to fully appreciate pictures like this one. For me, it reflects the Norwegian nature very well. I like the colours, the atmosphere and the emotions it generates. From the technical point of view, there's nothing to say... it's fine!

Kind regards

Markus

you really showed us a stunning landscape with excellent pov and comp. so much is going on here and the exposure and slow s/s works so well.wish i could take shots like this tfs

Hi Neik.
Great lead in and through to the glacier, composition makes a wonderful image. Beautifully exposed, sharp, and with great detail. The milky colour and flow of the water is great.

Kathleen.

Excellent image. Very splendid, beautiful colours and nice sharpness.
Best wishes,
Achim

Excellent POV & comp Niek, great detail/DOF.
I like the stark, rugged look of the terrain, accented by the colors of the grass & sky..Even a touch of ice blue seen in your glacier up top.
Well done!
Howard

Hallo Niek
This is such a refreshing scene. Looking at it makes me miss somebody I don't even know. An image I would print, frame and put it on my wall. It is really beautiful. There is just such a variety of colours and aspects of nature to appreciate. This is a magic scene that has a calming effect on the eye. The landscape with its waterfall is really wonderful. A lovely view which I enjoyed looking at very much. Thanks for sharing. Kind regards
Anna

Hello Niek. Excellent perspective of the valley in tall frame. The angle is perfect with the rock on both sides of the flowing water. The peep at the sky adds perspective to the composition. I like the very good depth and the contrasting foreground details. Top quality shot and very well done. Best regards. Jusni

Hi Niek

This a wonderful, well planned and executed, composition. Great blurred water, with lovely use of the landscape to create sight-lines in the shot.

Hi Niek

Norway must be a great place for you as I had trouble choosing a photo to critique on. The drama of the water and glacier coupled with the stunning framing here made this my favourite. Great low POV and excellent DOF as well. I have been to Norway a few times in the past and this really captured the landscape for me

Hello Niek,

I particularly like this shot, the winding path of the glacial ice higher up turning into the rushing torrent of water leads the eye nicely through this image. The details of water and stone in the foreground is very attractive, adds interest, to me anyway. Very nice, dramatic clouds above too.

Thanks,
John

Un décor impressionnant de ce fond de vallée encaissé et finissant par un glacier apparemment gigantesque!
