I have been in Italy for a few days for a break. Unfortunately on the first morning Sue slipped in the shower, badly bruised herself, fainted from the pain and then banged her head, so we spent the first day in the hospital in Pisa. She is on the mend now - slowly.

Torres del Paine National Park is a Chilean National Park comprising mountains, glaciers, lakes and rivers. The Cordillera del Paine is the centerpiece of the park. It lies in a transition area between the Magellanic subpolar forests and the Patagonian Steppes. The park is located 112 km north of Puerto Natales and 312 km north of Punta Arenas. Bernardo O'Higgins National Park is its neighbour to the west, while Los Glaciares National Park is located to the north in Argentine territory.

The Glacier is in the south end of the Southern Patagonia Ice Field. The surface of the lake can be seen when following the big circuit of Paine Mountain Range at John Garner Pass. There is another view of the glacier from the south shore of the lake where the glacier can be seen in the background, with fragments of ice floating close to the shore. It is located to the west side of the Torres del Paine National Park.

This is a scanned slide - I especially like the shapes in this ice - caused by the ice shifting as it melts.

I took this shot as the sun had gone down on a cloudy day.

Merhaba James, nefis bir kare.Buzulların görüntüsü her zaman beni etkilemiştir.Suyun altındaki buz kütlesinide düşündükçe bir o kadar ürkerim.Ama nedense orada yüzmeyide isterim.Böyle çelişkili duygular hissettirir.Çok beğendim, ellerine sağlık :)

Hi James,
So sorry to hear of Sue's mishap. Dealing with medical issues are always stressful but in a another language and while on vacation is just awful. I hope she mends quickly without any long term difficulties.

Nature's ice sculptures are among her most beautiful. I love the graceful, flowing lines, amazing shapes, and incredible color.

Hi James,

How horrible for Sue - I do hope she is feeling well now. What a way to start a vacation! Excellent capture of this melting iceberg. I love the shadows, shapes and colors.

Hi James,
The shapes of this iceberg are indeed very interesting and worryingly also show what is happening there. The image quality is good for a scanned slide. I think the colours are fantastic too.

Hi James,
Sorry to hear about Sue. I do hope she will recover fully and soon. Its rough to have such an accident, but its even worse when it happens away from home in a different country. Its always in my back of my mind, but luckely not controlling me actions.

The shape of the ice is very beautiful. The combination of soft curves and sharp edges is fantastic. The color from the Fuji Provia is something special and made the photo even better.

Hello James,
Sorry to hear about Sue's accident and the set-back it must have caused for you both during your visit to Italy. I hope she is on the mend now.
A beautiful bit of colour from your archives showing the blues and purples of a block of melting ice in what must be a unique environment in the Patagonian mountains.
TFS this beauty,
