The Holly Blue (Celastrina argiolus) is a butterfly that belongs to the Lycaenids or Blues family and is native to Eurasia. It is a frequent visitor to gardens as it roams the countryside. There are two broods a year. This species is renowned for fluctuating wildly in numbers, believed to be caused by parasitism from the wasp Listrodomus nycthemerus. The wasp lays its eggs in the larva of the Holly Blue, with an adult wasp eventually emerging from the Holly Blue pupa. (UK Butterflies)
