Lesser known backyard inhabitants:

There is another horned bug in the yard, this time I show the Northern stinkbug (Heteroptera; Pentatomidae; Carpocoris fuscispinus (Boheman, 1851); Nördliche Fruchtwanze). It is sitting on a Mint flower sucking some nectar and is about 14 mm long. The species has a Eurosiberian distribution (in Europe "Northern" means usually north of the Alps!). At this time of the year the tachinid flies also prowl on the flowers, some of them parasite on bugs by attaching eggs on their cuticle. The hatching larva penetrates into the bug and eats the living host out, ugghh.

ID: there is a lot of colour variation for this species. The most reliable means of ID are the fine sawlike indents of the black striped abdominal rim. The antennae are black except for the first segment.

Guten Morgen Dietrich,

Helmut

Hi Dietrich!
As I like a lot the sharpness and DOF in case of the bug (these are really very nice), I have to say also that the BG doesn't look very natural and I see some important changes using Photoshop or other programme...
Anyway, it is nice entomological presentation and I would like to see another colour form of this bug :>
Greetings,
Radomir

Hello Dietrich!

Common but still beautifull. It is very hard to take good picture of these shy bug with proper DOF and POV, but you did it very well. Exceptional details and warm colours.

Lieber Dieter,
Anne
