Cheney was designed in a checkerboard fashion. Because of strict rules regarding natural wetlands, actual building in wetland areas or within certain parameters is not allowed. our wetlands here and around much of the US are well protected by departments of ecology both on a state and federal level. so I live essentially between three of the many wetlands which surround my personal dwelling. This gives nature an opportunity to thrive even in the middle of a small town. This is why we see so many creatures which others might not be able to see without far travel
Wiki in partial description of the cat tails in the fore says:

"Cattails are wetland plants, typically 1 to 7 m tall , with spongy, strap-like leaves and starchy, creeping stems . The leaves are alternate and mostly basal to a simple, jointless stem that eventually bears the flowers."

Here I was finally and maybe for the first time in a long time, able to get down on the ground on my rear end to get a low perspective looking across the tops of the cattails in the small wetlands and into the city where the trees are growing with autumnal colours.

hello Bob

once again we are neighbors today and your beautiful shot's
thumnail with full of luminosity is contrasting with my image's thumnail

beautiful shot with as usual always fine POVs,
excellent luminosity, sharpness and details,
you did a good choice with the Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd,
one thing i don't love from the Fuji's and they have to fix that,
they don't have OPTICAL IMAGE STABILISATOR,
if not i am a fujiiste and nikoniste, TFS

Ciao Bob, my today neighbour, fantastic composition with splendid light and wonderful autumnal colors, bravo, ciao Silvio

Hi Bob,
You've captured a beautiful concordance in nature between the various green hues, browns and the yellows. So soothing for my tired eyes my friend, TFS this fine capture.

Hi Bob,

You picked the perfect spot to take this picture with the cattails in the foreground, the matching tree surrounded by the deep green trees behind them, and the lovely light green grass between. There is a wonderful sense of depth. A beautiful landscape in its simplicity.

The yellows shown by the bulrushes or cattails and the aspen(?) and the greens by the grass and the confers denote this time of year presented in a superb composition with a fine perspective. A beautiful and peaceful image.
Thanks Bob and have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hello Bob,
Here we're surrounded by water too on all sides, rivers, lakes and the sea which is lovely! You really got a very fine view here through the Cattails (we call them Cigarr Reeds!) and across to the woodland with focus on the beautiful yellow tree! I love the light and the warm colours.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hello Bob
An intriguing capture..I can almost envisage you in a pond looking through and framing up!!
Your framing is superb though..with the foreground rushes and the whole scene seeping back to the glorious autumnal tree.
I have to say Fuji really do some excellent algorithms on their colour balance which provides the user with gloriously saturated pictures...I will never part with my 2.1 mp Fuji!!
All the Best
Paul

I know you were concentrating on the cattails Bob, but that one gorgeous yellow leaved tree really captures your attention in this beautiful shot.
Well balanced shot with good DOF and POV.
I've always wanted to try and eat the tubers of these water plants but haven't gotten around to it yet. I have a book by Euell Gibbons titled (Stalking the wild asparagus) and he claims they are really good. TFS

Ciao Bob,
bellissima immagine, eccellente composizione con le ife in primo piano che risaltano sullo splendido BG verde del prato e con il coloratissimo albero giallo sul BG verde scuro, meravigliosa la luce.
TFS.

You beat me to it Bob... I've been trying to get a decent shot, that I am happy with, of cattails now for a little while... perhaps one day this next week I will try a bit harder. Very well done my friend...

Rick

tfs & regards

Hello Bob

The autumnal colours in this are vibrant and the yellow leavers are a great visual focal point.
The cattails make a statement in this shot,"We are here ,we are part of the wetlands, don't overlook us".
Great to see conservation authorities all across the continent protecting valuable watersheds, while providing homes for fish and wildlife.
Very good of you to keep attention on this important ecological work.
TFS

Hi Bob,

The point of view through the cattails toward the trees in the background and the conbination of the different tints of colors are assets to the composition. The light is enhancing the colors and is giving a good contrast to them. Have a nice day.

Bob, This is a beautiful shot and what a landscape you have chosen. Excellent colors. Ganesh

Bob, this is a beautiful autumnal image from your part of the world.
At this time of the year, I get nostalgic about my native home in the hills where I used to live with these colors at this time of the year.
The yellow tree at the center of your frame makes a beautiful contrast with different tones of green around it.
The water plants in the foreground lend perspective to the landscape image.
Thanks and take care.

Amazing colors Bob. That yellow tree is perfectly placed in the frame contrasting well with the rest and the green field. The foreground tall grass is like adding icing to the cake. An eye catching landscape and I like it. Well done. Jusni
