[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This season I was wondering what happened to Mantids as not even a single specimen I saw till i found this one. This was a medium size mantis resting on a small plant waiting for the insects. Now the season of Mantids has started and I am all geared up to shoot this alien looking insect which offers excellent photography opportunities to macro photographers.

I took almost 60 shots of this mantis and observed it for a couple of hours till i was satisfied and my eye started to give me trouble as i was looking through the viewfinder but i really enjjoyed it.

I will be posting some mantids pose which i have never seen earlier. During these couple of hours i saw the mantis observing, camaflouging, killing and eating too.

The composition is as it was taken, the image has been framed and resizes for the final presentation. The shot has been taken with Nikon D 80 alnog with Sigma 70/300 apo dg macro lens. Tripod was used.

Your critiques and comments are most welcome.

Hi Pankaj,

It's nice to see a Mantis from you again - I loved the ones you posted in the past. This is as wonderful as the others - you always manage to get them to stare at the camera. The shape of the face and the features are excellent. The pose is marvelous showing him off very well. Beautiful lighting, colors, details and composition.

Namaste Pankaj,
well selected framing and point of view. The dark background works well here, giving
a particular contrast to the face and the eyes. Focus is precise and in combination with
the great depth of field, it results in a largely sharp presentation of the mantis.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Pankaj!

Great shot of this mantis- fantastic eye-to-eye contact, he looks like smiling;) Nice one.

cheers
Adrian

There are some lyrics from a song with the "Moody Blues" which sound a bit like your title but probably have little to do with it and that shows me something...the groups song speaks of love for a woman....or perhaps friend it isn't clear, while your image tells a totally different story...I always enjoy these from you...and I agree with you..the close in images from you and missing Sumon....are again the best...

Hello Pankaj,
Your Mantis seems to be a star, she knows exactely how to look for the photographer..and she seemed to enjoy it, 60 shots!! The composition is excellent with the diagonal dividing the green and the dark part of the picture and the excellent focus on the head of this special creature. Really well done.
Have a nice evening
