Hello friends in TN,

This one was captured after the rain perched on my frangipanni plant.

Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Mantodea

Praying mantids are highly predacious and feed on a variety of insects, including moths, crickets, grasshoppers and flies. They lie in wait with the front legs in an upraised position. They intently watch and stalk their prey. They will eat each other.

Praying mantids are often protectively colored to the plants they live on. This camouflage facilitates their predaceous behavior. Mantids are usually found on plants that have other insects around. Some mantids live in grass. Winged adults may be attracted to black lights in late summer and early fall.

Many fish and predatory aquatic insects eat larvae and pupae. Bats, birds and spiders eat flying adults.

Interesting Behaviors
The adult female usually eats the male after or during mating. Mantid's grasping response is incredibly rapid, so that you see it before it catches the insect and when the insect is in its front legs. The motion is barely a blur if it is perceived at all.

The compound eyes are capable of seeing images and colors. The three simple eyes perhaps tell the differences between light and dark.. The simple eyes are arranged in a triangle between the antennae. Compound eyes are made up of hundreds of facets constructed with two lenses. These focus the light down a light sensitive structures (rhabdome) which is connected to the optic nerve.

Thanks for viewing!

Abang Jusni,
Captured well on this Mantis on top of the frangipanni plant, my favorite plant with nice colour on flowers!
good lighting with great sharpness, nice colour and details
well done and TFS

Another for your top drawer..Perfect ethnic colour combination...it takes a Malay eye I think, but I understand it..and also this reminds me a bit of Indian..E Indian colours which are normally graphic in drawing but only in image a bit demurred..

Hello Jusni
He's a long skinny praying mantis. And I see his colours are green and brown too. I just love the alien-look he has

Hi Jusni,

What a long, skinny mantis this one is! He must have been hard to see since he is well cammouflaged by the green leaves. Beautiful colors - the flowers are gorgeous and the water droplets are wonderful. Excellent details of the entire insect. A perfect background and a lovely composition.

Olá Jusni

Que delicadeza de imagem, luz, cores, nitidez, composição, excelentes.
Grande abraço,

Wow, Jusni, this is a fantastic image of a good looking Praying Mantis!
Everything including the subjects looks so clean and shining under the impact of the fill flash.
You could take care of BG noise with a filter, though.

Ciao Jusni,
bellissima macro di mantide religiosa dai colori mimetici, splendida composizione per la posa su questo bellissimo fiore e le gocce di pioggia che rendono ancor più brillanti i magnifici colori, ottima nitidezza, molto bello BG.

Hi Jusni.
Superb picture. First of all I like wonderful flash work and sweet colours of the image. Details and sharpness of the fine flowers as well as the image of a cute small mantis are excellent. I also like that you managed to save nice BG despite use the flash. Well done and TFS.

Salam Jusni,
sorry for my delay. As you know, semestre started and we are busy with lecturing.
Well, we say for these animals, peygamber devesi (English translation as like prophet's camel). Praying mantis and Turkish names similar and refer religous things, as you know.
Your capture great with superb colors, great composition and focus. POV and plain BG also very nice.
and also Congratulations on your 150th. I wish you many hundred posts here. Thanks for sharing, best wishes my friend

This is a pleasing & colorful frame Jusni.
