[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a small butterfly which is occasionally found in restricted places. I posted already 2 pictures of this species to TN. But I could not resist to post a third one, because it nicely shows the hairy body of the specimen.
In this case, I used another picture format as usual.
Try pressing F11 to see the entire picture on your computer screen.

I include here the text of one of the previous pictures.
The species shown is
- Plebeius orbitulus (= Albulina orbitulus)
- family: Lycaenidae

English: Alpine Argus
German: Heller Alpenbläuling

Species information
P. orbitulus is a small butterfly of the family Lycaenidae with a very restricted distribution in Europe. It is found in the Alps and some parts of Scandinavia where it is obviously rare (Henriksen and Kreutzer, 1982).
However, it also occurs in mountain areas of Central Asia.
In the Alps, habitats are at elevations from 1800 m upwards.
Foodplant of the caterpillar: Astragalus alpinus

Locality
North Italian Alps, way from Lake Zufritt to Sälent-Joch.
Altitude: about 2300 m

Conditions
- natural light (ISO 400)
- no wind
- handheld

Hello Peter,

You have shown very well the etxture of the wings in this excelent close-up. I like the soft light you have used and the way you have rendered so many grey color tones. As you have chosen a well adapted DOF very good details can be seen on the whole insect.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hello Peter,

Hallo Peter,

ein Meisterschuss, den ich schon bewundert aber bisher noch nicht kommentiert habe. Es ist das Licht und dien grosse Schärfe, die beeindrucken. Und eine Schmetterlings-Art, von welcher ich noch nie gehört habe. Wunderbar!

Herzlich grüsst Dieter
