What is relation price of apple and Waxwings? Last year apples was high-priced and on the apple-trees didn't left of the fruits and Waxwings we had had two days but this year price was so low that all fruits are on the trees. The Waxwings have rich meals and keep here enough long time from half of October.
The Bohemian Waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus) is a member of the waxwing family of passerines. A sleek bird, 18-21 cm long with a pointed crest, it travels in large, nomadic groups with a strong, direct flight. It breeds in coniferous forests throughout the most northern parts of Europe, Asia and western North America. While the Cedar Waxwing inhabits only North America and the Japanese Waxwing lives exclusively in Asia, the Bohemian Waxwing is the only member of this family whose range circumnavigates all the continents just below the sub-Arctic latitudes.Like other waxwings, its diet consists primarily of berries supplemented by insects, especially during the breeding season.

This species is irruptive, moving in unpredictable migration patterns from year to year, and particularly moving south, often in huge numbers, if the berry supply fails in winter.

The call is a pleasant ringing sound, similar to that of the Cedar Waxwing but lower pitched.
Birds in winter can be very confiding and will come into gardens for berry bushes and trees, a favourite being the rowan.

Hello Pawel,
It was worth sacrificing an apple to achieve such a fine capture of the Waxwing, taken with fine lighting and sharpness from a good POV and set in a pleasing composition against a blue sky.
Well done and thanks!
Regards,
Ivan

Hi Pawel,
ooohhh, that's my great wish - to see this bird with my own eyes. I only know it from photos, never seen it in nature.
So you can be happy, thanks

Hello Pawel,
You're lucky to have captured a Waxwing this winter, I have only seen and heard them flying over once! I like your composition showing the bird next to a fine apple. Nice details and lovely colours. Well done!
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hi Pawel.
You have met and captured a very nice bird. And it looks on apple tree with impressive fruit so attractively. I like composition of the shot, nice bokeh, impressive lights and shadows. However, shot is over sharpened a bit. Halo is visible enough. Thanks for sharing and all the best.
Alexei.

Hello Pawel,

Good picture of this beautiful bird.
In the Netherlands are this bird rare and sometimes they come with hundreds.
Beautiful colours.

Gert

Hi Pawel,
This is a very colorfull shot with good sharpness and composition. It seems that this Waxwing saw you just when you took the photo. Maybe I would remote the little dead leaf which touch his beak. I wish you a Happy New Year,
Catherine
