LEPTIDEA SINAPIS (Linnaeus, 1758)

Wood White
Piéride de la moutarde

Family: Pieridae
Genus: Leptidae
Distribution: Europe, south of 66°N in almost all countries
Habitat: Sunny places, meadows, woodedges

I cannot be a 100% sure if this specimen is Leptidea sinapis or Leptidea reali. Both species look alike and cannot be identified just by a picture. In the past the difference between the two species wasn't made.

I'm in the process of admiring my just uploaded handiwork and there you pop as my immediate neighbour in the gallery, Anne!
Welcome, and nice to shake you by the hand!
Today you have brought us a fragile looking Wood White you shot way back at the peak of summer. And it is a beauty. Goodness, you have captured those faint dabs of grey on the white wings and also those delicate veins on them!
Thanks for this beautiful picture. Makes me proud to be your neighbour -- a chance happening with the ratio of one in a million. Or am I being silly with just the ten thousand of us one TN?

Hello Anne,
Years ago we walked every summer through the mountains of Berner Oberland and Wallis. The nature in a lot of places is breath-taken in your country.
This photo is also splendid. The colours are marvelous and the sharpness is excellent in a brilliant composition.

Liebe Anne,

Hello Anne,
Nice one of a L. sinapsis ovipositing on what must be some species of vetch. Excellent sharpness and light management and the POV shows the butterfly and her occupation very well indeed.

Hi Anne,
One of your best image, what I liked here is the timing, very precise. Very good composition and details. One thing this set apart from others is the colors, the white surrounded by some beautiful shades of green. Its very pleasing to watch. tfs.

Hello Anne,
It appears that this spring and summer you had very good luck again in finding species of Lep. in the mountains. This image of the Wood White appears to shpw the female laying eggs on the bush. Very clear and detailed, Well Captured,

Hi Anne. You have a very good close up of the Small white butterfly which you have fine detail and natural colours. I like the many shades of green in the leaves in the BG. well done TFS.

I think Anne, if there were some way you could tell me how you do whites so well..I'm looking at EXIF info and thinking. Was this taken in a manual setting? You sure do fine work with whores...and so delicat4e as well.

Hi Anne.
Fantastic, precise reproduction of white clothes of the charming butterfly. It looks like bride. Green tones are amazing, deep and very pleasant for look. You have reflected the fine surroundings of the butterfly perfectly. DOF is selected greatly. Details are superb. Well done and kind regards.

Ciao Anne,
bellissimo momento di cattura di questa farfalla che deposita sulle foglie le sue uova, eccellenti POV e composizione che mostrano con superba definizione la delicatezza e la ricchezza delle sfumature e delle tonalità del bianco delle ali.

Hi Anne,
How are you doing? This is a wonderful picture of this Wood White. The details are amazing and the exposure too. I know how difficult it is good get details on a white subjects in such a condition and you have done extremely well to get this wonderful picture. And more over its laying eggs.
