Those are happy elephants having a great mud bath. They are lucky to have the mud pit where they could completely cover themselves with mud.

The mud protects elephants from parasites - not completely, but definitely makes the parasites life harder. If there is no mud at the waterhole, then elephants wet and then dust themselves using the trunks.

If there is any possibility to get mud, the elephants will do it and it's amaizing to see how the big elephant manages to get completely muddy using just a tiny mud pit.
