This was taken in the forest last weekend on a dull day , the Male Chaffinch looked as if he was rather well fed.

Chaffinch ( Fringilla coelebs ) One of the commonest and most widespread birds in Britain, favouring a wide variety of habitats including gardens, parks and woodland. In winter numbers are boosted by the influx of north european birds. Song comprises a descending trill with a characteristic final flurish. Feeds mainly on Insects during the summer months but seeds in the winter where they often gather in large flocks

Hello Nick,
Neighbours again.
Maybe a dull day, but a splendid photo of this Chaffinch. What a beauty! Everything in this photo looks great. The light is beautiful, the colours, sharpness, details in whole bird, BG, POV, DOF and composition are all excellent.

Hello Nicholas,
You should have a f/2,8 in England:-)
I would be easier for you in terms of camera settings.
Secondly I'm always happy when I see the word 'tripod'.
Finally it's a good close image. For instance I like the posture, perching and the subject distance. Through 'subject distance' I mean there's a lot of space around the bird and that's good as the Chaffinch is a relatively mall bird.
Thanks and greetings

Hi Nick,

Sounds like every day is dull and looks like another beautiful bird who is not dull at all. He doesn't look very happy though. He is so colorful and the colors are marvelous. Excellent details from the tip of the beak to the tip of the tail. I love the pose, background and horizontal composition.

Hi Nicholas,
This little guy looks cold, and yes, he looks well padded, which is good.
What beautiful subtle colors in the plumage.
You managed some very crisp details despite the overcast conditions.
Great POV.
Did you mean to put the bird right in the center of the image?

Great capture, beautiful colors and lovely
catchlight, excellent sharpness and depth of feild,
wonderful details in the plummage and nice blurred background.

I would call this "A puffy small bird with a small amount of green stuff on it"...but then I am a very avid Monty Python fan Nick...sorry if I diminish myself:-)

Great pic of a fine little twitter...it looks like it will make it eh? Who knows..may hit a car windshield in a few days...life goes on...I cannot believe I am this old..and I cannot believe i walked so far this summer..and I cannot believe it is STILL snowing...God help us....

Hello Nicholas,

Wow! What a really colorful bird!!! Thank you for presenting it to us as it is the first time I see it! Colors looks natural and you got a great POV. The branches in the bg bring a 3D effect to the picture. The only thing maybe is that the bird looks to me a little bit too centered within the frame. I would have place it more at the left...

Thank you for sharing this nice pic with us :-)

hi Nicholas

I think all birds fluff to its round sharp when the weather is cold and this makes a good indication of its resting position and keeping still.

You captured this bird very well here with bokeh and comfortable light condition.

tfs, bill

This Chaffinch is so beautiful, Nick.
A superb capture from a point of view that shows the entire bird and especially its plumage in its glorious beauty.
The DOF is amazing in this well controlled shot on a dull day.
Thanks and regards.
