Hi Valerie,
I have to agree the combination of the mini tree with the giant mushroom is great. It makes the photo very original. But as you mentioned yourself the technical quality of the photo aint the best. Actually both subject are OOF. Maybe you can still recover the mushroom by adding more sharpness on it. Besides that tech part, the composition and find are wonderful.

What a beautiful composition. Almost like David and Goliath, the one stronger and taller than the other. A very original presentation that fits in well with this time of year and a most suitable image. I see a few technical hinderings, which you also have mentioned in your notes, but that is small in comparison to the originality of this scenery, so we put that in the background and forget about it. The whole scene reminds me of a fairy tale and I was wondering if there where any elf’s or fairies hiding behind the mushroom? A wonderful presentation. Best wishes for you and your loved ones over this Christmas period.

A nice and original capture of a fungus and a young Christmas tree.
Both for me represent using the old and decaying matter in the soil to rejuvenate the new: symbolic of the old giving way to the new!

I think the key point of the image is its subject. You have selected it perfectly. This cute pair is looked nicely. And you have reproduced their beauties very well too. Smooth colourful BG is wonderful supplementation for these creatures. Bravo.

Bonsoir Valerie,
The most important thing in photography is the photographer's visuality. Big congratulations for this image: idea behind the pic, great exposure, nice focus (I don't feel the fungus oof) and DOF. A real Christmas present (although I know I delayed with Christmas messages...).
Seems like an old specimen of Mycena sanguinolenta.

A creative composer would find life and compositions in the least likeliest of places..and you do it with elan and ease ...with an eye for the little things of nature that is a pleasure to look at.When you write about the moss covered forest i can well imagine the scene and where thes two friends I apprecite the train of thoughts you share where you compare the little Christmas tree with the taller fungi.The tree long and the earth floor you have captured in the composition adds a rustic texture.
