Snowy Owl
Bubo scandiacus Order STRIGIFORMES - Family STRIGIDAE

Done during a trip to Amherst Island, with my friends Peter(Sirianul) and Carl-Adam

At the extreme northern margins of the arctic tundra lives the Snowy Owl, the northernmost, heaviest, and most distinctively marked owl of North America. Largely diurnal, it spends much of its time perched still and silent on prominent lookouts, waiting to make forays for prey.

Description
Large, white owl.
Some dark barring.

Size: 52-71 cm (20-28 in)
Wingspan: 126-145 cm (50-57 in)
Weight: 1600-2950 g (56.48-104.14 ounces)

Hi Mario,
very nice that you had the opportunity to get a photo of this very beautiful bird.I have seen these birds but never did I have a camera with me at the times I saw them,shucks!The lightning was not very kind at the time you got this capture but that takes nothing away from this fine photo as the colour,focus and details are all excellent and that pose is classic.Thanks for sharing this wonderful predator with us all and have a now happy new year.Keep on getting out and taking your photos,Mario as you have a knack for getting very excellent captures and you do such an excellent job showing that even in a city like Toronto,nature is never very far from us.
