Thanks for your critiques and comments concerning my previous post and I hope you enjoy this one...
These ancient dunes near Sossusvlei are photographed in the relatively frequently visited center of the national park, accessible by road from Sesriem. You can find more info about Sossusvlei in my Namibia collection..
Sossusvlei is situated in the Namib-Naukluft National Park.

Namib-Naukluft National Park is an ecological preserve in the Namib Desert in southwest Africa, thought to be Earth’s oldest desert. The park is the largest game park in Africa, and a surprising collection of creatures survives in the hyper-arid region, including snakes, geckos, unusual insects, hyenas, gemsboks and jackals. More moisture comes in as a fog off the Atlantic Ocean than falls as rain, with the average 106 millimeters of rainfall per year concentrated in the months of February and April.

The winds that bring in the fog are also responsible for creating the park’s towering sand dunes, whose burnt orange color is a sign of their age. The orange color develops over time as iron in the sand is oxidized, like rusty metal; the older the dune, the brighter the color.

These dunes are the tallest in the world, in places rising more than 300 meters (almost 1000 feet) above the desert floor. The dunes taper off near the coast, and lagoons, wetlands, and mudflats located along the shore attract hundreds of thousands of birds.

‘Namib’ means open space and the Namib Desert gave its name to form Namibia – “land of open spaces”. The park was established in 1907 when the German Colonial Administration proclaimed the area between the Swakop River and the Kuiseb River a game reserve. The park's present boundaries were established in 1978 by the merging of the Namib Desert Park, the Naukluft Mountain Zebra Park and parts of Diamond Area 1 and some other bits of surrounding government land.

The park has some of the most unusual wildlife and nature reserves in the world, and covers an area of 49,768 km² (19,215 square miles). It's an area far larger than Switzerland, roughly the size of the US states New Hampshire and Vermont combined. The region is characterised by high, isolated inselbergs and kopjes (the Afrikaans term for rocky outcrops), made up of dramatic blood red granites, rich in feldspars and sandstone. The easternmost part of the park covers the Naukluft Mountains.

Another work of art made by sand and light. Very calm picture with rust-coloured shades and great shapes. It must be superb place to visit.

Hi Annick. A very different sky in this picture of the dunes. Once the colours and shapes play a big part in the landscape. I like the flat square edges to the large dune in the forground. All in a nice well presented frame. TFS.

Someone with your innate eye for composition must have had a great time among the dunes. It is an interesting juxtaposition of the sharp angles and curve.

Beautiful desert scape image, I did see some sites like this in Egypt but not nearly as nice. Excellent d.o.f with stunning shadows on the dunes. Really well framed and composed, also nice to see the 5d being used, I take it was for the full frame image, just stunning.

The composition and colours of this Namibian sand-dune image are wonderful and the effect of the cloud shadows produces a great effect of changing light and shade.

Neem aan dat je ook de beruchte klim op dune 45 erop hebt zitten,een tiental jaren geleden ook eens een poging ondernomen,een fraai uitzich met mooie schaduwlijnen,
