Genus: Erithacus
Species: E. rubecula
Binomial name: Erithacus rubecula (Linnaeus, 1758)

The European Robin (Erithacus rubecula), or, in Anglophone Europe, simply Robin, is a small insectivorous passerine bird that was formerly classed as a member of the thrush family (Turdidae), but is now considered to be an Old World flycatcher (Muscicapidae). Around 12.514.0 cm (5.05.5 in) in length, the male and female are similar in colouration, with an orange breast and face lined with grey, brown upperparts and a whitish belly. It is found across Europe, east to Western Siberia and south to North Africa; it is sedentary in most of its range except the far north.

The term Robin is also applied to some unrelated birds with red breasts. These include the American Robin (Turdus migratorius), which is a thrush, and the Australian red robins of the genus Petroica, which are more closely related to crows.

Hi Thijs,
Very nice! The color, exposure, POV, and details are excellent.
Great use of F/5, lovely pose with the near wing slightly raised..
Well composed, and I like the neutral BG here.
Thank you for this beauty,

Hallo Thijs,

What a nice portret of this Robin you have made! You have used very well the DOF showing sharply the head of the bird and part of the body. You have rendered very nice colors and there is a perfect match between the colors of the bird and the background.

Thank you for sharing,

Hi Thijs,

This is very good picture with loads of details on the bird's plumage! What i liked about the image is its simplicity and composition.

Goutham R

Very cute one with a pleasant posture, the frozen branch, a clear eye, colors not too accentuated!Perfect

Hallo Thijs,
Wat een prachtige winterse foto van dit roodborstje in een aparte pose. Uitstekende kleuren en scherpte tegen een mooie vage achtergrond. Je hebt hem vanuit een perfect standpunt genomen. Erg goede compositie.
