[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note

My weekly upload is placed now on Saturday afternoon instead of the promised Sunday, because tomorrow I'll be on a trip in the mountains, to capture some snowy landscapes. Now I chose this image - the often photographed, wonderful butterfly, Vanessa atalanta, because I thought it's time to post something else, not fungi now. The link above is the "Vanessa atalanta collection" on TrekNature, I'm sure You'll find useful infos about the specie in any note.

I dedicate this pic to my Italian Friends, who are much more experienced insect photographers than I. So, Maurizio (maurydv), Luciano (lousat), Roberto (cobra112) and everyone else I am (was, will be) in contact with from Italy, this is for You!

Story behind the photo: we were on a trip with my father in the Bükk mountains. We reached Maria Source at dinner time, so we sit to the bench and ate our 'puritan' (but on trips the most preferred) dinner - canned meat with bred. After having food my father had a short rest, while I went to the brookside with camera in my hands to find something worth photographing. And I found 3 specimens of Vanessa atalanta, flying above the small creek and the pebbles. I had to wait a lot (15 or so minutes), because they didn't stay too much after sitting onto the pebbles, so lots of my shots became useless (each except for this and another one, with a bit less opened wings, which I will probably use on TrekEarth or TrekLens later). As told above, I don't feel myself good in insect photography, so I had luck with this image.

This was a fantastic trip on that day. My 1st Vanessa atalanta photos, a few hours later I found the first ever fruitbody of Fomitopsis rosea in Hungary, plus I captured lots of, by my opinion useful photos of more common fungi species. You can find at least 5 photos in my gallery from that wonderful August day.

Maria Source, where this photo was done, is lying on ca. 600 meters above sea level, and is famous for never being dried, not even in the heaviest droughts.

PP: only the usual framing - signing - re-sizing trio. Nothing else. I hope You'll like the pic.

Hi Laszlo,
Though I am from India, I love butterflies and I appreciate this fine image from you. This is a very beautiful butterfly and you have captured it in all its glory. The pebbles adds much interest and makes the image so pleasing. Very neat and sharp image with lovely colours and markings on its upper wings. Very nicely composed.

Hello László!
I see that you are gathering your own collection of butterflies, and what a great collection! This Vanessa is perfectly captured and so beautiful. I love the perfect sharpness and contrast and the intense color on the wings. Even being set on the ground it is a great and beautiful image.
Congratulations and thank you very much for sharing, dear friend from Hungary.

Szia Laci!

Ilyen szép lepkék vannak Magyarországon? :)

Szia Laci!
Nagyon szép, kiváló minőségű kép! Szépek a színei, klasszikus a középpontos elrendezés, a kavicsok pedig kiváló minták háttérnek.
Jó hétvégét!

Hello Laszlo !
Great picture of this beautiful butterfly, with typical pose, wings wide open. I particularly like this species, because ever summer I see them on a tree in my garden, fighting without fear against hornets - very impressive to watch. Sharpness and details are excellent, and he also stands out very nicely on the rocky BG. Nicely composed, beautiful upper POV. Very well done !

Hi Baratom Laszlo,

A fine macro capture of this beauty with fine details. Yo managed your camera great that all details on the wings and antennas are in focus with soft lighting MF.
By the way, thanks a lot for additional info for fungi-hunting:) They will be absolutely usefull for me.
All the best! Take care MF!

Hello Laszlo,
A nice view on this beautiful species in its typical position and environment. It's easiest to photograph it while sunbathing or feeding on fermenting fruits. Otherwise it's a butterfly that gets scared and escapes very quickly.
Very nice exposure controll - good balance between light backround and dark wings.
Best greetings and TFS!

hello Laszlo!
after a year I come to thank you for the dedication (even if not mentioned) in this colorful vanessa atalanta on the ground with excellent details
