Welcome to TrekNature. I am fairly new my self and not an expert photographer. I like the subject of your photo. I love taking snow pictures when not many people are out.
On this picture, I might suggest you may want to crop it a little tighter on the pine cone and cut out a lot of the of the back ground. If I knew how to do a workshop I would show you what I mean, but I am not that far along yet.
I have found the best way to get into the site is to post a picture every day if you can. Write a good note explaining either why you took the picture, what it is about, something about the subject. That gives folks from around the world an idea of where you live and what you like to photograph. Look at what other have written. And then start looking around at other photographers and write a critique of their pictures. This may sound like a lot, but goes pretty fast and you will meet a lot of interesting folks along the way.
