[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
January 2009 almost passed by, it's snowing outside my window, weather is dull. I was hoping that I'll go to park today and take few shots of birds. No way! Almost no light and wind with snow isn't best condition to take photos. So I stayed at home and started to look at my 2008 archive. It was really good year in photography for me. I took more expierience with my dSLR, weather during summer was brilliant and there were many opporunities to photograph different creatures. I made collage with my best shots of 2008.

1. One of last shots of 2008, Blue Tit in quite nice pose, taken in one of few sunny days in December. I like these birds. They're small, colorfull and cute. I take pictures of them only during winter. In other seasons they're too shy and busy, hidden high in trees between leaves.

2. One of my best shots of robber fly [most probably from Machimus]. These flies are rather hard to photograph - they're always busy, maybe not very shy, but always hidden between grasses which make them almost impossible to photograph with good BG. This time I was lucky.

3. Ohhh, noooo! Astronomy picture! Loved by me, hated by you :-) In 2008 I was lucky to observe another eclipse of Sun. It was very hot day with clear sky in beginning of August. One of unforgettable moments of previous year.

4. A butterfly :-) Important for me for two reasons. Firstly - this is one of my favourite pictures of butterfly. Not very colorfull, but very stylish. I like all things in this photo. Secondly - this isn't very common butterfly, at least not photographed by me so often like Painted lady or Peacock. Please enjoy female of Pararge aegeria from Satyrinae.

5. Probably your favourite picture here ;-) Red squirrel, very cute and sympatic animal. Typical pose and nice low Sun light. I take pictures of these mammals two or three times during year, mostly in winter. They're not shy at all and very easy to capture.

6. Mister Spider. I love spiders [at least our local species, not Australian killers ;-)]. This is one of most common and most beautifull Polish spiders - European garden spider [Araneus diadematus]. Picture taken around pond in Botanic Garden during d-fly hunt.

7. I took many photos of plants and flower in previous years, but not in 2008. Why? Because I was very busy with other subjects. This picture include two small bonuses - fly from Syrphidae [which I like very much] and tiny Pollen beetle - one of messengers of Spring.

8. And this little gem is ambasador of desert areas of Botanic Garden. I spended many hours there capturing many interesting tiger beetles, wasps, flies, butterflies, etc. This is Ruby tailed wasp also known as Cuckoo wasp [Hedychrum nobile]. One of most beautifull wasps and extremally hard to capture - always fast moving from one place to another.

9. Last but not least - dragonfly in flight! 2008 was for sure year of damselflies and dragonflies. I focused on those insects and took many good photos of over 20 different species. We've got also great fun with my friend Horia during our friendly d-flies competition. In 2008 I also took my first photos of dragonfly in flight. This is Aeshna Mixta - Migrant Hawker, very big and showy insect.

Well, I choose nine photos only, but this is not enough :-) I thing I'll make next part of this post soon ;-) Enjoy!

Hallo Greg
An absolute delight to look at this collage, each individual image worth a smiley on its own, and each supplying its own pleasures and admiration. Looking at this image is like paging through a forgotten photo album and each photo you see have pleasurable memories. I cannot really say which one will I choose to be my favourite as they are all so colourful and beautiful, but at the end I’ll place my bet on number eight. It was most enjoyable paging through snippets of your 2008 portfolio. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards
Anna

Hi Grzegorz!

:)

Yeah, me too. I've done a lot of photographing this summer, although we didn't have much sunny days. Mostly clouded. I took quite some pictures in 2008. Not to forget editing. I took the new FZ8 zoom camera for a squeeze. Best of 2008, Good idea! two points for the idea, the extra work that went into this one (9 photos in one...).

Best regards,

Dimitri.

Hi Greg. The weather has been dull and cold here today as well. You have put this together well using your best picture. Each one is a first class shot with rich colours and fine detail. If i had to pick one it would be No 5 The Red Squirrel as well. TFS.

Hello Greg,
You can feel proud of this sample of best shots for 2008. Each image is of the best technical quality and well arranged in this fine montage with the red squirrel nicely placed in the centre, rubbing his 'hands' with delight!
Great to view and confirm your skills as a nature photographer. May your 2009 be as least as good!
Thanks and have a good weekend,
from a continued dark and grey Scania,
Ivan

Hello Greg,
Beautiful images in this collection. Very colourful!
I'm going for
#1 the spider...as it is very difficult to get an overall sharp spider
#2 the butterfly...simple compo but very good and an extraordinary wing and so forth
#3 the dragonfly...sharp in flight.
Well done!
TFS

Hi Greg

A very beautiful collage about the great year: 2008 :)
I like all of the photos very much and they really demonstrate that we had a lot of fun exploring nature in the past year…I can only hope that 2009 will be even better :)
I have to confess, my favorite one of them is the d-fly in-flight…it’s something that we both got well last year. I hope we’ll finally meet at the TN meeting and exchange some fore tips and tricks ;)

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hello Greg !
So ůany wonderful pictures combined into one ! Each and every one of them is good enough to stand alone, but together they make a cheerful summary of 2008 and of all the beauties you find in your country (which are more or less the same than in my country, but I never even dreamt to make such wonderful captures). It's a real pleasure for the eye ! :-) Very well done !
Valérie.
