Backyard discoveries:

The fly eyeing you is a 12 mm male Snipe fly (Diptera; Rhagionidae; Rhagio scolopaceus (L.); Schnepfenfliege). The animal occurs all over Europe but is not a frequent sight. I found surprisingly little info about its biology, but Marie Christine (mariki) knows a lot about them.

ID: The genus Rhagio contains about 6 species north of the Alps. Thanks to the key of Mark (http://home.hccnet.nl/mp.van.veen/) I was able to nail down the species. Thanks, Mark!

Hi, dear Dietrich.
Thanks a lot for your warm words. I am very pleased as well as I am pleased so much to watch your new extremely wonderful, breathtaking macro shot. Fantastic sharpness and details of the insect and texture of the leaf. I thinks it is almost impossible. However, you managed to reach such level of details reproduction. POV and eye-contact with this creature is amazing too. And richness of colours and perfection of the lighting are traditional for your exceptional macro works. My greetings and TFS.

Hallo Dieter!

Hallo Dietrich
What a fine looking pair of eye's, I mean what a fine looking fly. The detail is just stunning and a real eye catcher. There is hardly enough space on my screen to make it fit. The detail of the fly's paws, wings and hairy body is great, not forgetting to mention the pair of sunglasses. A wonderful close up and a pleasure to look at. Well framed and pleasantly presented. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day.
Kind regards

Lieber Dieter,

Hello Dietrich
A macro that is incredibly sharp and enjoyable to look at for the sheer amount of details it is able to show off a portrait of a Fly.

This Snipe Fly you share with us has gorgeous eyes. And i like the way you got those legs looking like stilts holding the subject in the position ready to make the next move. There is an immense amount of finer points of the subject emerging even out of the shadows where every hair standing on its body is visible.Good PoV wherein you could manage the two leaves (on which it is spread out) in almost a diagonal fashion.Excellent use of flash and fine exposure and sharpness.

Thanks for sharing
