This was taken at the same place and day as the Brambling . The weather was rather dull and cold. There were about 15 or more Longtailed Tits all in a group trying to all fit into one wire feeder it was funny to watch .

Long-Tailed Tit . ( Aegithalos caudatus ) Length 14 cm.

The tiny rounded body and slender tail of the Long tailed Tit gives it a ball and stick shape, that is quite unique among European birds.

In summer family parties move noisily through bushes and undergrowth, but in the winter they often travel through woodland in much larger groups, crossing gaps between trees .

Feeding flocks often resemble animated feather dusters.

The plumage can look black and white but at close range has a pinkish wash to the underpatrs and pinkish buff look on their back.

It has a tiny stubby bill.

Voice: High, thin, colourless seee seee seee short abrupt low trrp or zerrp.

Nesting: Rounded nest of Lichen., moss, cobwebs and feathers with a side entrance in low bush. 8-12 eggs, 1 brood. April-June.

Feeding: Tiny Insects and Spiders taken from twigs and foliage, some seeds.

They are becoming increasingly seen at garden feeders.

Hello Nick,
You ceratainly ahd a good day when your wife drove you to the New Forest to take the bramling and this fine shot of a Long-tailed Tit. The pose, POV, lighting sharpness and composition are all excellent when it is not easy to take such a good shot of this active little bird especially as you had to use a tripod owing to the low light.
Well, TFS and have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hi Nick
I was up Blashford this afternoon - and the Long-tailed Tits looked a lot more miserable than this in all the sleet and snow! At least I got good views of one of the Bitterns which was some consolation.
Nice capture for a dull day with good detail and colour.
Vinny

Hello Nick,
Well done. Maybe not so common in Hampshire?
Here we spot these tiny and delicate birds especially in the winter when it's quite cold. Generally not easy to spot though.
Well captured.
Thanks for sharing.

TFS. Best regards.
Have a good weekend.

Hi Nicholas,
This is one puff ball with a nice stick;) sticking out!!!
A very detailed and sharp capture with good clarity. The colours on its plumage are beautiful and fine to look at.The Bg compliments the colours of the bird excellently. At the same time the blurred BG does help well enough to isolate the bird and show it in good perspective.
Thanks a lot for sharing

Bu zor ve nadir görülen türün gerçekten çok başarılı bir çalışmasını paylaşmışsınız. Sisli bir havada geçenlerde ben de rastladım buna ama bu kadar güzel bir fotoğrafını çekemedim. Sizi tebrik ediyorum. Hoşçakalın.

Hi Nick.
What a crisp sharp image of the small beauty taken with so long exposure time. And I also am impressed with very nice colour palette of the shot. It is simply amazing. POV and composition of the shot are, may be, the best for presentation of this natural scene and fine birdy. Well done and many thanks.

This is not a bird, it is a sky-flower! Those tits really attract me, they look filled with tenderness, kindness and joy. We don't see those pretty birds here and what a pleasure it is to have discovered them on TN. Thank you Nicholas, it is most beautiful,

Francine

Puffy little thing Nick...I do so enjoy my birds as this...although we have not had the numbers as years past..Perhaps we are suffering as you did with Sparrows!
Bob

Hello Nicholas !
This is such a cute Tit, so fluffy, a real ball of feathers ! Sharpness and details are excellent, and I also like the natural colors, the composition, the POV, the blurred BG. Even if the colors are warm, there is a nice winter mood in this picture, with naked branches and a bird who seems to be cold. Very well done !
Valérie.

wow a pic of my all time favourite bird a lotty

Fabulous Nick simply stunning i'm very much jealous its not got my name on it :) I always find lotties too jumpy and never settle on a branch for long so well done.
