[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
During the spring and summer we see a number of Great Blue Herons around our area. Most of the time they are in the shallow parts of ponds and rivers looking for lunch. This day, I found this one standing on top of a light post. (Another reason to always have your camera with you.) I was able to walk up very close while continuing to take pictures. I thought this was one of the better pictures from the day with the clouds in the sky and a little different POV. I hope you enjoy.

Hi Bob,

Great close up image showing the plumage well. I agree the bits of cloud add to the picture, good composition and unusual POV as they are usually close or in the water.

This is an excellent shot, but it seems too contrasty to me. I think I would try using Photoshop to lighten the shadows a bit. Gary

Pretty close but I think these birds are great indeed. I know the size of the Goliath heron.
Nice compo and blue sky.
The sharpening shouldn't be sharper.
Nice colors throughout the shot.

A superb close portrait of a Great Blue Heron!
The composition of the head and the curved neck against the blue sky is great and the sharpness in the side lighting excellent.
