[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I would like to start a small series of pictures entitled
Nature in Our Hands
in order to strengthen in a symbolic way the awareness that we are responsible for nature and for the fate of many species.

Picture no. 1 in this series shows
- Gomphus pulchellus
- family: Gomphidae

English: Western Club-tailed Dragonfly
German: Westliche Keiljungfer

The dragonfly was freshly hatched and therefore was rather passive and an ideal object for taking pictures.
In addition the bright light gave me chance to select small apertures in combination with acceptable short exposure times. So I could achieve a suitable depth of field by a handheld capture.

Location
A small nice nature reserve in the vicinity of Schladen, Sachsen Anhalt, with several ponds and beautiful vegetation.

Species information
G. pulchellus occurs in West-Europe (Germany, France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Spain. It is absent from Scandinavia, Great Britain and Italy and most parts of Austria.
In contrast to other species of the genus, pulchellus prefers ponds and small lakes.

Conditions
- bright sunlight (ISO 400)
- handheld

Hello Peter!

Great idea for serie of picture. And beautifull first one. Fresh dragonfly is perfectly sharp and detailed. I like its eyes, markings on body and pale colours. Excellent picture.

Hi Peter.

A truly amazing macro, one can almost feel the shell of the dragonfly, seems to be softer and moister due its recent hatching. Great idea for a series of pictures. Thank you for sharing.

Hello Peter,
Though I like to avoid photos of creatures together with parts of our bodies I like your theme!
I also like the sharpness of this close macro of Gomphus pulchellus that shows the head and thorax with superb clarity in great ambient lighting.
We must learn to look after what is left of the natural life on our planet and this means that we have to curb our growth. We can no longer prioritize jobs against our natural world but as unfortunately that is a minority view your little campaign is a good thing!
Thanks and best wishes,
Ivan

Ciao Peter, great capture of superb dragonfly with fantastic colors, fine details and splendid sharpness, wonderful composition in your hand, very well done my friend, have a good Sunday, ciao Silvio

HI Peter,

Hi Peter,
Wow! that if you have an impressive collection of photos of species. I appreciate the comments and I'm taking advantage of visiting your favorite photos on display. The level of detail is impressive. The outcome is excellent and the documentation on each photo is the front line.
