Sometimes it's a pleasure to go back in the time and look into your archives.
Photos, who were forgotten, come alive. So is this one.

The Crested Screamer (Chauna torquata), more commonly called the Southern Screamer, belongs to the Order of Anseriformes.
This bird is found in Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. Its diet consists of plants stems, seeds, leaves, and, rarely, small animals. It is about 80 cm. long and lives in swamps, estuaries and pool coasts.

The Crested Screamer is a good swimmer but prefers to move on the ground. The bony spurs on their wings are used for protection against rival screamers and other enemies. Although it is non-migratory, it is an excellent flier. They are normally seen in pairs but sometimes gather in large groups if there is a food in one place.

It establishes monogamous relationships that last a lifetime. Its lifespan is estimated to be 15 years. For the nest the couple makes a big platform of reeds, straws and other aquatic plants, in inaccessible places. The female lays between two and seven white eggs. Incubation takes 43 to 46 days and the couple take turns during this period. The chicks leave the nest as soon as they break the eggshell but the parents take care of them for several weeks. The fledging period takes 8 to 14 weeks.

Hi Peter,

This Crested Screamer is an amazing looking bird! He must make quite a sound to have that name. I love the rear view showing off those wonderful feathers. Nice of him to turn his head so you got a great profile. His feathers are much prettier than his face although the red patch is great. Beautiful colors and excellent details. I'm always thrilled to see a new bird.

Hi Peter.
Simply wonderful close-up of this charming bird. Back POV is amazing and feathers of the bird are so funny. You have reflected of all unique features of the charming model perfectly. I also like impressive and nicely detailed BG. It is so pictorial and light blurriness is so suitable and allows to see and details of the BG. Bravo. Excellent attractive job.

Hi Peter,
this guy looks realy a little funny, a nice redface-bird, I like it.
And I'm a little jealous - you have been to the Iguazu-Falls, I have seen this place on TV, must be impressive.
Thanks and greetings

Hallo Peter,
Een rare vogel, Peter. Alsof de verhouding niet kloppen. Zo klein hoofd gecombineerd met die enorme poten.
Niettemin gaf hij jouw een leuke pose.
Foto met een gepaste scherptediepte. Mooie compo.
Bedankt en de groeten...

Hello Peter,

You are showing nicely the bird as you have chosen a rear POV but good eye contat with the bird. The sharp image shows well details of bird's body and plumage. Colors are intense and vivid looking very natural.

Thank you for sharing,

Hallo Peter
Here you have that bird again that reminds me of the group Mungo Jerry from yesteryear. I do not know why I always think of them when I see this bird. It must be the feathers on the side of the cheeks that remind me of their overgrown sidewhiskers. The hugely shaped feathers of the bird is very clear and obvious. Well captured from behind. All in focus showing great details. Truly amazing, and a real delight to look at. Perfect exposure and natural background. I just love the that massive paws. Thanks for sharing. Much appreciated.
Kind regards

Hi Peter,

HiPeter, Good Morning MF!
An excellent and lovely capture of this cute bird from a nice pov with wonderful clarity, pose and sharpness.
TFS and cheers,

You are right, it is fun to go back and look through past photos. I like this shot with the bird looking over it's shoulder. You have great detail on the feathers and we still get to see the face and the red around it's eye.

Thanks for going back in time. - Bob

Hello Peter,
Excellent capture of this Southern Screamer, very well done!
TFS. Cheers, Ferran.

Hello Peter,
You obtained a good photo showing the back of this species and a good approach, is not easy if they are in freedom. On the other hand I recommend to you to correct the place you´re obtaining the photo, because the cataracts, on the Brazilian side are in the Parana state.

Un curioso animal que nunca había visto hasta hoy. Bien captadas las plumas y su bella disposición. Aceptable profundidad. Un bonito trabajo.
Saludos Peter: Josep Ignasi.

Hello Peter,
