Long-tailed Tit /Aegithalos caudatus/
L 12- 14 cm.
Features
Spherical body from tail longer than body. The both sexes have the same colour. The white head, black top of the body the and wing with a bit of bronze, the flight-feathers with white edges.

Occurrence
Varied and not very compact forests, bushes with thorny shrubs, parks, the edges of forests. Common. Not very numerous. In winters it often creates large flocks.Widespread on lowland terrains. It doesn’t stay long anywhere. It wanders locally.

Long-tailed tits build quite big nests from moss, growths and cobweb. Usually quite low in thorny shrubs.

Food
They feed on insects (e.g. aphises), their larvae and eggs or different small invertebrates. Long-tailed Tits, with sharp beak, takes out insects from cracks in bark or on trees branches. These birds feed on seeds and also berries, so soft that they can split them without problem. European Spindle and honeysuckle are their favourite shrubs. They never pick up Ffood from the ground. They can, as a coalmouse, hang on branch upside down. They often hold on with only one leg, and holding food withe the other one. In winter, with strong frosts coming, Long-tailed Tits starve, especially when the layer of ice covers twigs.

I made in my garden this photo. I hung on plum-tree spheres from fodder. Long-tailed Tits came flying tylko once. They for this at my friend Hania are accomodates. Their behaviour is not timid. They be able to sit near nose man :).

very lively, well composed portrait of the long tailed tit. Such a pretty bird. I like the subtle colours in the dim light that are bringing a gentle poetic touch into this dynamic capture.
