Yesterday I posted an image of a White Wagtail that had arrived in Sweden two weeks earlier than usual but as I wasn’t pleased with it I withdrew it and apologise to those that had already given critique for it.
This one is from my archives.

Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus).
Swedish name: Stiltlöpare

Though Lanzarote is dry with a very low rainfall, it is visited by several species of waders along the coasts where there are shallow pools of water.
Such pools are found at salt plants, the largest of which, Salinas de Janubio, is probably the best place for waders in the Canary Islands.

The shallow evaporation pools provide small crustaceans and other forms of life that attract waders and some species of ducks.

The Black-winged Stilt is a relatively common wader in the countries around the Mediterranean, where it arrives in the early spring after overwintering in Africa. It is also found in Asia and Australia.
Some of those in Lanzarote could well be permanent residents.

This was taken at a distance of about 15 meters (50 ft) with my camera hand-held. After moderate cropping the image was selectively sharpened. Though I try to avoid many images of the same species and have posted this species already three times, I couldn’t resist this one.

Hello Ivan, when I saw the title, I thought of David Bowie's song "Let's dance - Put on your red shoes" and here they are, standing on their long red-pink legs. These are very beautiful birds that you make me discover, they are peculiar! They look like normal birds but on long legs, what grace! Your picture is beautiful, with the nice reflection in the water bringing a yellow touch to the composition. Thank you!

Hi Ivan,

I love your title - I think the one is teaching a new step to the other. A beautiful pair of Black-winged Stilts at the water's edge. Their long pink legs are amazing. Beautiful blacks and whites, fine details of their faces and feathers and wonderful expressions. A nice natural setting and composition.

Hello Ivan.
A beautiful shot of these two Black-winged Stilt patrolling the shallows.
Nice exposure and sharpness.
A good note too.
TFS & Cheers,

Hej Ivan
what a lovely shot of beautiful Long-legged Stilt. all photographic features great, from focus and composition to POV and exposure. But notes and title also great. Let's dance is good, but we can say "legs' dance" :) I also like this species. In last week I saw it in İstanbul, but they have not occurred in Niğde area, yet. I think we can see them several days later. Normally they be here in March.
Thanks for sharing my friend
have a nice weekend to you and Ulla

Hello Ivan,
Qaulity image here my friend, tack sharp and wonderful colors. The pose captured and the subjects are splendid. Thank you Ivan, hope you and Ulla have a great weekend. Snowing here.

Dear Ivan,
a very charming capture - that image definitely "got rhythm".
Excellent image in its precision, composition, perfectly natural subdued colours, the location at the boundaries of earth and water. Thank you!
With best regards,

PS: Never resist repeating to show a certain species with images like this one. With you I am seeing definitely no such danger as showing just the same ducks and peacock butterflies over and over again :)

Hello Ivan,
Superb composition and lovely pose of these two White Wagtail
Focus and exposure are blameless
Well done

Hi Ivan,

Hello Ivan !
Such a great picture ! I love the poses of these Wagtails, and I also like the way their red legs are standing out against the greyish BG, the only touch of color on an otherwise B/W picture. Very nicely composed, excellent details, great POV. Very well done !

Hola Ivan,
atractivo disparo y hermosas aves,
composición y buen foco.
saludos amigo.

Hallo Ivan
Time has been one of my worst enemies lately and I missed out on a lot of super images including this one. This is really splendid image. The colours and details captured on the birds are super, especially on the legs and the almost “Chinese” eyes. The motion and pose captured is great, the reflection in the water and movement of the water is super. Just love the contrast of black and white against the grayish gravelly surrounding. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards.
