[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,

Today, I am posting a male redpoll. I have been seeing males and females visiting the garden ever since I began to place niger seeds in the bird feeders. The male can be distinguished by his blush coloured chest as well as cap, whilst the females just have a cap.

I did not realise that there were two types of redpoll, the lesser redpoll and the mealy redpoll, which are very similar. I have included a web link here which explains the differences.

I'm pretty sure this is a mealy (common) redpoll male.

Many thanks for your interest.
Please feel free to feedback on any aspect of the photograph. Bev :-)

Hi Beverley.
You are happier photographer than I am. I have many shots of the species. It is widespread in our region. However, all shots are taken from far distance and not so good. Yours is amazing. Excellent portrait of the cute redpoll. Colouration is very attractive and more rich than colours of our birds. I like nice cropping and framing of the image. My kind regards and compliments.

Hello Beverley,
This is almost a macro of a male Redpoll, at least I have never seen a shot of one so close up.
Taken with good sharpness and colours to show the features of this head and upper body of this male against a pleasing BG.
They only rarely come to gardens in my part of the world and only in the winter, so I shall never have the chance to take a shot like this!
Thanks and have a good weekend,
Best wishes,

A very good close up, good collours and good composition. With all the postprocessing we can see this lens is not a good choice.
