Grumpy the Baby Sparrow
 |
|
[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Hopefully this is a baby sparrow or I shall have to change the title! This youngster was on my sidewalk and quite obviously not pleased with me; as a result, it earned the name Grumpy.
Mama was near and she fed him frequently as I watched. I never capture her as she fed her baby because she was too quick for me. However, this baby could fly about five feet at a time, and then would rest.
The lighting was horrible, but I first noticed the youngster while sitting at my computer. I glanced out my window and caught Mama giving him/her a worm or some other goody.
Like any photographer, I took my camera out and investigated. This is one of the shots I walked away with. And, it was definitely not happy with me!
Due to the extreme lighting, I went into hightlights and shadows in Photoshop; it's a feature I rarely use, but in this instance, the tool allowed me to decrease the areas of intense lighting (very hot spots) behind the baby.
Not wanting to lose contrast, I upped that a tad afterward. In spite of the lighting, and although they are hard to see, this youngster really does have eyes - and an attitude! |

Hello Kathy,
Nice shot with fine detail and natural colors. It sure looks like a young sparrow to me too. Great work on your PP. technique, the lighting looks fine.
Look at the size of those feet compared to the rest of it's body, he has a lot of growing to do in order to fit into them!!
