[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,

Today, I am posting a shot of a late night visitor to my garden. Through the window, I could see him rapidly climbing the steps towards the lawn. Have you guessed? Of course, it was a hedgehog. Although I have seen them briefly before, I was surprised at the speed by which it moved!

I rushed out, camera in hand, to try to shoot him as he circumnavigated the garden! Quickly upped the ISO and voila!

On its way to the decking area, it passed our cat!
It paid no attention to the cat ... and, the cat just looked at the hedgehog without showing any hunting tendancy!

Eventually, the hedgehog arrived by the pond. On its approach, several frogs jumped onto the side. At the sight of the frogs, our cat took up a stalking attitude.

This behaviour suggests, to me, that the cat has met the hedgehog previously and has come to respect it. The frogs, on the other hand, posed no threat and were fair game!

Many thanks for your interest.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph. Bev :-)

Hello Beverley,

Excellent capture of this interesting animal.
Lighting and composition are fantastic.
Good note.

Karan used to love these creatures.....it looks a bit like a Porcupine and I wonder if it is in the same family. So good to see you posting and I hope you get back up to speed soon!!! Read that twice:-)

I'm so partial to your narratives, Bev!
Sometimes, one's at a loss as to which is better, the shot or the narrative!
Superb everything, my dear friend!
TFS!

Hello Beverley,
A good opportunity well taken!
We don't often get to see hedgehogs on TN and not in real life, except squashed on the road!
You did well to get so little camera shake at 30th sec as the hedgehog is almost sharp. I think the use of the low light is better than using flash!
Nice pose and POV too.
Thanks for posting this together with your amusing note.
All the best,
Ivan

Hi Beverley,
Interesting shot, taken in difficult conditions and without flash! Yes, hedgehogs can be very fast as you told us very well. I saw one a few days ago but could not take a decent photo. TFS and best regards,
Catherine

Hi Bev,
A nice capture of this hedgehog. Although the capture is not sharp enough. Still then a good documentation. Thanks a lot for sharing.
